Westwood

Sophistication and Authenticity
Westwood offers very close proximity to the UCLA campus and a relatively walkable environment within Westwood Village. The nearby green spaces and the overall safe feel of the neighborhood make it a great option for families with young children and pets, as well. Though Westwood is a relatively affordable area, in true LA fashion, the neighborhood still manages to maintain a measure of high-end charm with sleek dining options, multiple theaters, and intermittent trendy locales. Because of it’s proximity to UCLA, its attractive scenery within Westwood Village, and its effortless blend of sophistication and authenticity, Westwood is a very popular and active neighborhood.

Renters here love to be apart of the action and experience the culture encompassed in the Westwood neighborhood. Traffic can be very difficult and noise levels can be high, but the residents find this to be a worthwhile price to pay.

Westwood — 8.4/10 Rating (based on 148 neighborhood reviews)
I love living in this part of Westwood! Family-friendly, lots of dogs, children, and people walking around the neighborhood. Quiet, which is great. Close to the 405 and 10 freeways (important in LA), downtown Westwood, Brentwood, Santa Monica, Century City, and Beverly Hills. Westwood is ideally centrally located with respect to other West LA neighborhoods.

Westwood is a great area for graduate and professional students who are not from LA. It is walkable (grocery, pharmacy, restaurants, etc.), which is nice. Campus is close by, and a bus service runs from Weyburn directly to campus.

There is a large amount of homeless activity in the area.

It is a very young neighborhood. A lot of undergrads in the streets.

I'm not a city person, so it feels like there's nothing to do. I don't like bars or clubs, and I can't afford to eat out. Movies are pretty expensive, too. I would love more green space to sit and get away from the noisy 405. But there is a grocery store nearby, and there are a fair number of restaurants and movie theaters. There should be plenty to do for city people. Westwood feels like your typical college town, and it's full of students.

Lots of dining and grocery options at all price points. Very happy to have Ralph's and Target within walking distance (along with upscale groceries if that's your thing). 30 min to LAX or Santa Monica by car (if traffic is cooperative). Easy access to the 405. Lots of Uber cars around to take you where you need to go. Some quiet neighborhoods around campus that are good for running.

Some homeless people but overall feels quite safe. Only problem is that (surprise) it's definitely not cheap to live here.

The graduate housing seems like a ghost town. There is hardly anyone out in the quad area ever. Depending on whether you are a social being, this may or may not be an issue. People generally order a lot of things over Amazon and they are delivered to your door, BUT it is also not uncommon for your packages to be stolen. I would never have guessed it but even though it is a gated community, sometimes either outsiders or residents steal packages delivered outside of your door.
