West End

Modern Neighborhood with a Lot of History
West End is a neighborhood with some of the city’s finest restaurants, hotels and condominiums. What makes this area ideal for living is its easy accessibility to Georgetown and Dupont Circle. West End — 8.3/10 Rating (based on 59 neighborhood reviews)
My apartment is in West End, and I love living here. It is close to Dupont and the social scene there, as well as being close to work in the other direction. It is also close to the Metro, so I don't feel the pressure to pay to keep a car here. There are good restaurants nearby and a great Streets market right across the street.

West End is home to a handful of bars and restaurants, some with rooftops to enjoy at night when there’s good weather. You can find grocery stores, gyms, pet hospitals, a public library, hotels and more around the neighborhood.

Foggy Bottom is safe, clean, quiet and conveniently located. Renters should be aware that this is a very undergraduate heavy lots of college students around. Also a pretty quiet neighborhood, not a high concentration of walkable bars, restaurants etc. but can easily access the rest of the city via Metro or bike.

West End is somewhat squished between Foggy Bottom and DuPont. There are a lot of newer apartment buildings, and a number of cafes in the area. There's a Trader Joe's, a small hardware store, a few dry cleaners and a couple of gyms in the area. There aren't very many restaurants in West End proper, but both DuPont and Foggy Bottom are an easy walk. Georgetown is also a fairly easy walk. It is close to GW's campus. The Foggy Bottom metro is 5-10 minutes away, and the DuPont metro is maybe a 15-20 minute walk. It's a pretty safe neighborhood and relatively quiet at night.

I like having Trader Joe’s around the corner from me. Great access to Georgetown. I also like that I am close to both Foggy Bottom and DuPont circle metro stations. I wished there was more food dining options on the neighborhood. Most food places are at least 10-20 minute walk.

The neighborhood is quite good. I live where West End/Foggy Bottom meets, so 2400 Penn is said to be in either neighborhood, depending on who you're asking. I personally do not bank with PNC, but there is one not far from the apartments steps. There is a Trader's Joes that is right across the street (3 minute walk) and a Whole Foods (about 5 minutes) heading towards GWU. Like I already mention, rent in DC is going to be high no matter where you live, but I find the prices here to be "somewhat tolerable".

West End is fine. It's safe, there's easy access to transportation and plenty of supermarkets. But it's boring as anything - a neighborhood of hotels and office buildings. It's also overly pricey without really giving you much in return. As someone who had to move to DC on short notice - I picked West End based on location and little else - and I mostly came out of my time living here wishing I had done more research before signing my lease.

Safe neighborhood, great transportation hub with multiple bus stops less than a minute's walk from the apartment and a 5 minute walk to the metro. Some restaurants and bars nearby as well. Ten minute (at most!) walk to GW campus! My only gripe is that it's an expensive neighborhood but the apartment is competitively priced for the area.

The neighborhood is perfect. Ten minute walk to school, five minute walk to the metro. CVS and Walgreens just ten minutes away, trader joes just 3 minutes away, Whole Foods ten minutes away. There is a bus stop with a bunch of bus routes directly in front of the building. This neighborhood is also close to a bunch of other great neighborhoods, just a 20 minute walk to DuPont Circle and Georgetown where there are restaurants, bars, and stores. The monuments (the Lincoln) are only a 25 minute walk down 23rd street. There are numerous gyms nearby and the school gym is only a ten minute walk from the apartment. The area is probably the safest in the city and there is not a lot of noise over the normal city noise. It is next to the GW Hospital so ambulances going by can be annoying but not overly so. This neighborhood is great and close to every amenity.

I’m in walking distance to Georgetown which is great for days I just want to take a walk, go to a movie, shop, or dine. There is a Trader Joe’s about five minutes away walking. Whole Foods is over near Ross Hall if you prefer there. Metro access is also near Ross Hall which allows you to travel wherever you want in our outside of the city. I never feel confined to my area at all. Occasionally, there are reports of store robberies or stolen packages from apartment buildings, but that comes with living in the city.
