This is the place to be in White Coat!

Tons of space, close to the hospital, lots of medical students around, easy walk to the Arb and other trails. Spacious, clean, and BEAUTIFUL courtyard.

Great White Coat Experience

Great place to live if you are a student/employee of Michigan Medicine. The apartment is a <10 minute walk to the hospital. Nielsen itself is one of the nicer complexes in the area - it’s a bit more expensive than nearby Island Drive, Med Center Court, and Riverhouse Apartments, but the space is worth the extra price. The biggest draw is the kitchen - tons of counter space (many units will have island countertops)! There’s in-unit dishwasher and washer/dryers as well. If you live in one of the upper floor units (which I recommend), you will get a 2-car garage + a parking pass so 3 people can park easily right at the complex. These units also have vaulted ceilings and a nice loft area making the place seem huge. Cons: The units can get cold in the winter and lead to pricier electric bills, there isn’t always available parking for whoever is not in the garage, the walls are a little thin, and garbage/recycling days are incredibly early on Tu/W mornings (before 7am). There isn’t much in the immediate area in terms of food/activities but Ann Arbor is small enough that downtown is close by, ~20-30 minute walk to most things. There is a dog park, access to the Huron River, and a couple restaurants within the immediate vicinity.

Good Property, Bad management

The management company is very difficult - there was a leak that required the walls and carpet in the living room to be ripped out and replaced and it took over 2 months and they only compensated us $200. Other than that, the place is very spacious and I enjoy living here.

Near the hospital

I have absolutely loved living at this apartment. It is within walking distance to the med school and the hospital which has been key for me. Our management company can be frustrating at times, but otherwise I have no complaints!

Great Property - Bad Landlord

The property itself was great. Good location in white coat, friendly community. It had washer/dryer in-unit and a garage. There was plenty of room in the unit. But because they are privately owned, instead of owned by a management company, we somehow got stuck with a bad landlord who refused to fix the broken dishwasher for two months, the leaks under the sink, and we spent 8 months paying for a two bathroom apartment when only one of the bathrooms was useable. I would suggest making sure you talk to previous renters and do some background on the landlords before moving in. The unit was amazing, but because they are privately owned we got stuck with a nonresponsive landlord.

Nielsen

Nielsen is great because there are a lot of other med students in the area so it's easy to stop by a friends to hang out or get help on school work. Most of the units are also very nice and homey inside. The downside is they tend to be the priciest of the white coat area and parking is not the greatest.

Spacious living with a large kitchen

The apartment is very spacious. I have concerns about the leasing company, who are sometimes not very professional in their correspondence.

North Campus Reviews

I have absolutely loved living a 10-15 minute walk from the hospital! The area is very safe with great outdoor parks/ trails nearby!
It’s a calm neighbourhood with great parks to roam around during summer
I personally really like North Campus, although it is farther away from downtown and the law school. There are several restaurants right near my apartment complex and the commute to school is very easy. I also find the lack of nightlife a plus, because it means the neighborhood is a lot quieter and safer than other areas of Ann Arbor.
Overall this area is great for walking to the medical school and hospital, living near other medical students, and especially having easier parking than in the central downtown/kerrytown areas. You also escape the rowdiness of undergrads by living here. The main reason I gave it a "7/very good" rating was because I don't like feeling isolated in location from central campus. Walking from White Coat to restaurants/bars downtown is at least 20-25 minutes, and often I decide not to go just because I don't want to walk there and back. After 6PM everyday parking is free downtown (free all day on Sunday), which is nice, except you don't always want to drive if you are going out to bars. It would be nice to have some type of casual coffee shop or restaurant in walkable distance to White Coat, but there is not. (edit: there is one breakfast-like cafe near White Coat, but it gets busy and is over-priced). There are some restaurants and coffee shops down the street on Plymouth road (not downtown) which is an easy 5 minute drive.
Multiple apartment/condo complexes within 10 minute walk of one another creating central location for many medical students of the University of Michigan. Park is 5 minute walk away. Lecture halls are 15 minutes door to hall. Hospital is 15-20 minutes from door to specific area of hospital. Never any safety issues. Parking can be strict and limited. Few stores and restaurants nearby.
This neighborhood is a 10 minute walk to the hospital which makes is very popular for medical students, residents, and even attendings. It is quiet, but it can be very busy in the morning and around 4pm when everyone is arriving/leaving their shifts. Grocery stores, cafes, and restaurants are a 5 min drive away near north campus.
Pros: beautiful - near the Huron River (5 min walk!) and trails and lots of trees. Very quiet. Residential area - maybe only 20% students vs. long-term residents where I am, though I'm close to the hospitals and med students, architects, and engineers all live up here. Very safe, and I see deer or even a raccoon once in a while. Grocery store is 1 mile away (Kroeger).

Cons: less social than I like in terms of proximity to Rossers. There is only one on my street that I know of.
Right next to University of Michigan Hospital, and I've never felt insecure or unsafe walking to/from school/work at any hour of the day. There are a couple of restaurants within walking distance and bus stops right outside the complex.
