The Arch reviews and highlights

  • There can be a decent amount of street noise during the week
  • Small, but functional gym
  • About a 10 minute walk to Trader Joe's or Reading Terminal
  • Management company has been reliable
  • Surrounding area doesn't feel like a "neighborhood" because it's pretty corporate
  • Mix of young professionals and graduate students

Overall good experience

Good experience living here (staff, neighbors, neighborhood, access to public transportation), and good experience touring complex, but had massive issues getting paperwork/approval for renting. Online system was broken and staff didn't know how to use it. Almost lost apartment in the process, during final exams.

1701 arch

The arch is in a great location directly across from the Comcast building close to love park and city hall. They have a great gym on the second floor of the building. The apartments are definitely on the smaller side but they are very modern and nice. Quiet building I can never hear anyone else on my floor, I am on the 12th. Would highly recommend

Great location and management, basic amenities

We lived in The Arch for 4 years and had no serious complaints. Teresa is a great building manager. Overall, nice apartments, though a little on the small side. Gym, study room, and TV room are nice though basic. Liked the ease of bill pay/rent payments and online management system. Good location near Rittenhouse though street parking is terrible for visitors. Decent garages nearby. Bike share stops closeby which makes traveling around the city easy. Would recommend this building to anyone looking to live in Center City.

The Arch is a nice building, but the location has some drawbacks.

The Arch is a nice and beautiful building. Apartments are small, but more than large enough and brand new (building was converted from an early 20th-century office building a few years ago). It has a small gym, a media-viewing room, and a common lounge. Doormen are on duty 24 hours a day. My experiences with the management company have been mostly positive. The residents seem to be a mix of young-to-middle age professionals, with some graduate students thrown in. The main drawback is the location. The Arch is certainly in the center, located in the financial district just across from the Comcast Tower, but is a bit farther from campus than buildings closer to Rittenhouse Square. The walk to campus takes roughly 30 minutes; however, access to public transport is good. Its location in the financial district has two additional drawbacks: first, the surrounding area doesn't feel like a 'neighborhood' and is very corporate, and second, the area can be quite noisy especially during the week. Street noise tends to echo off the surrounding skyscrapers, and the Comcast building's loading dock is just below. Truck noise (backup beeps, etc.) is frequent. There are also no 'normal' grocery stores nearby. However, the building is equidistant to Trader Joe's and also the Reading Terminal Market (which is excellent surprisingly cheap for produce). There is also a Wawa open 24 hours located in the building. One final note: be aware that Comcast will be constructing its new skyscraper a block away, starting in the summer of 2014.

Loved the neighborhood. Paying for monthly parking in a nearby garage was not outrageously expensive, was close to center city for fun and errand-running, Target and Whole Foods nearby made for easy groceries when I didn’t want to leave the city. Sabrina’s Cafe is nearby, which is super delicious. BSL was about an 8 minute walk to either Spring Garden or Race-Vine, depending on if I was going north or south. Great area for walking around and getting out of your apartment.
The apartment is technically between Logan Square and Rittenhouse Square. We live right above Trader Joe's, which makes grocery shopping a breeze. We spend a lot of time walking around Rittenhouse Square and Rittenhouse neighborhood to pick up groceries, drink coffee, and generally hang out with each other and friends. The river walk is a short walk away, and the Museum District is within walking distance. Back when I was going to school regularly, the Septa trolley stop is conveniently right in front of our apartment and the 30th Street Station is a 10 minute walk away. While the amenities leave some things to be desired and we pay a premium for our location, it is a great place to live especially for newcomers to Philadelphia who want to be next to all the action.
Unless you mind the noise of cars in the street below, you will not have any issues. Given that is center city there are many people experiencing homelessness so if that is a deal breaker I recommend other neighborhoods. The upside is being 5-10 minutes distance from all the fun, restaurants, activities, nightlife, etc.. that you will ever need.
Super close to Whole Foods and Trader Joes, and I love the walk along the parkway. It's close to various museums which is great! Overall the neighborhood is pretty residential, but there are coffee shops and to-go restaurants that are easy to access.
The neighborhood is a little more commercial but only a minute away from everything wonderful in rittenhouse. But it feels very safe at all times because it’s on a major street.
It is a great location. The law school is a 15 minute walk. Most of Center City is also within a 20 minute radius. A lot of other law students live nearby.
Lots of great bars and restaurants in the area. One of the safest and nicest areas in Philly. There are generally lots of people walking around.
Close to tons of great places to eat/drink, shop, etc. Walking distance to anything in Center City/Callowhill/Art Museum areas.
