Has pros and cons, but great deal

This apartment is better than it seems at first. The lobby/hallway is a bit shabby and the elevators are super small, but once getting into your apartment it's decent and can be made very cozy. I wish they did a better job of cleaning/maintaining those common areas, but at least my apartment is clean and comfortable. It's an older building but in decent shape and all maintenance requests are responded to within 1-2 days. The gym is small but gets the job done with basic machines, ellipticals, and treadmills. Laundry room has 4 washers and 4 dryers, and takes credit card for payment so it's super easy to use. Air conditioner is a wall unit so it's loud during the summer (and we had to turn on/off regularly). Heat has been fine but you can only select a setting 1-5, not a certain temperature. It's not a huge apartment but definitely spacious enough for 2 people. Decent closet space, not a ton (3 closets total).

Get what you pay for

Pros:
A much cheaper studio apartment than those in downtown Evanston, so it's more no-frills. Worth it to me because my focus was to save money while living alone. Also, I LOVE the location of this apartment because Trader Joe's and Jewel-Osco (aka cheaper groceries) are so closeby. You'll appreciate that in winter when you don't want to walk more than 5 minutes! Train station is right behind the apartment building as well.

I like the size of the apartment since it's cozy, but doesn't feel claustrophobic. There's lots of closet/storage space. It's been getting colder, and the apartment has been very warm, which I really appreciate as I'm having to do less on my own (i.e. heated mattress pad, weighted blanket, etc.) to make the Chicago winter bearable at home! There's a small gym with some treadmills and weight machines and a laundry room with 4 washing machines and 4 dryers.

Cons:
The apartment wasn't very clean upon arrival. Do a deep clean! It's not a very aesthetically appealing building. There is a package room, but it's not really used well, so the packages kind of just lie around near the front door of the building. I wouldn't ship anything expensive here just in case. There are maintenance issues around things like the shower drain or dishwasher, which can be frustrating. The maintenance staff is very kind though.

quite good

I think it 's a quite ideal place to live. The price is very reasonable and the location is quite convenient. We have laundry and free gym on the first floor.

Good value

Rent is on the lower end for a decent location. There is a small gym and washer/dryer room in the building. Management is ok - pretty responsive but sometimes not very effective.

Great Affordable Apartment

The apartment is great. It is located near bars and coffee shops. The nice part is that you are somewhat away from the main strip. It is also really close to grocery stores. The walk to the Kellogg building is straight down Chicago avenue, and you can take the bus as well.

Enjoyed it so far

I have really enjoyed living here. BJB is very quick to respond to concerns and the building engineer is always around and accessible, so problems get fixed very quick. Available on site parking is nice and can be obtained for a reasonable price with a little negotiation.

Downtown Evanston Reviews

All in all ideal downtown Evanston location. Very convenient for public transportation to Chicago, next door to local favorite Bennison's (love the late night smell of donuts baking), and walking distance to plenty of bars, restaurants, and stores. Once the Target goes up by Sherman Plaza and we have an alternative to Whole Foods close by this will be perfect.
McManus is located right next to Evanston downtown, so everything (restaurants, bars, groceries) is very close by. It's also right next to Northwestern campus (~15-18 minutes to Kellogg Global Hub by foot), which helps quite a lot, esp. in the winter when you'd want to keep your commute as short as possible.
We are across from the movie theater and Chilis. In our local neighborhood, we have shopping, events, bars, restaurants, and are a close walk for the Tuesday night parties. The Frost Bite stops by our front door, and both Davis Street stations are a block away or less.
I don't think there is any other place to live if you are a Kellogg student. Almost all the students live in this neighborhood, it's where all the restaurants are, and near the University and the train. The only place in Evanston that doesn't feels like a suburb.
Good central location in Evanston
Close to bars and other apartment buildings that other Kellogg students live in
~25 minute walk to the Global Hub
Evanston itself is just a little boring - no night life
Very close to Davis Metra station and Purple Line
The neighborhood is great and it is centrally located. There is grass around for walking dogs and the movie theater and restaurants are close by. It is somewhat far from the new Kellogg building, but most everything is now.
Great, quiet neighbourhood. Lots of students around obviously (mainly grad students in this area).

Pricey, for sure. Not a lot of cheap grocery/food options within walking distance.

The bar scene is mediocre at best.
Most Kellogg students live in downtown Evanston, everything is walking distance, and the building is a block away from the Intercampus bus stop, and 7 min walk distance from Davis station, which is very convenient.
