York Studio Apartment

My apartment has a good layout, including a semi-detached kitchen, and decent closet space. Sound from the surrounding rooms is not too bad, but sound from outside can be a pain.
The worst part for me is that there is only centralized heating and AC in the apartment, so on warm days in the winter (there have been a lot this year) it can get pretty gross.
There are no dishwashers, there is a gym with primarily treadmills/weights, the washers and dryers are in the basement and are generally always available. There is always hot water, which is nice. Overall the apartment is functional, nothing too fancy.

Awesome location and reasonable price

Located right in the middle of Foggy Bottom on The George Washington University's campus. It's an old building, but everything works fine. It's one of the cheapest apartment buildings you can find in the area, and utilities are all included. The downside is that it can get noise at night during weekend due to frat houses near by.

Great location, Okay apartment

I rented here for the location and the cat friendly management. The apartment is two blocks from the law school which was the most important feature for me. The downsides are that the building is fairly run down and my apartment gets no direct sunlight.

Teeny & old but unbeatable location

I've been very happy with my little home here. Everything was fresh and clean when we moved in. There's a coin-operated laundry room and a little workout facility downstairs. The rooftop is great for spending a sunny day. The neighbors are a great diverse mix of students, young professionals, families and older folks. Everyone has been super friendly and for the most part very quiet.
Biggest downfall is that all packages get delivered to the Potomac building around the corner, and there are limited hours in the leasing office, so it's a pain to pick them up.

Great location

The York is in a fantastic location -- right next to GW's campus and next to the Metro station as well. I love the Foggy Bottom area! The neighborhood is safe and there are lotso f great nearby restaurants. The building itself is reasonably priced, but is an older building so we'e had a few maintenance issues over the last year.

Resident for 3 years

The building can have a better heating system and a chimney in the kitchen. The building does not have enough parking facilities and the garage is located on the next street. The terrace is very good during the summers and the team is wonderful and very good.

Great place to live

The York has been a great experience — the apartment is a good size for the price in this neighborhood, it's a quiet building, it's centrally located, and the maintenance staff are very friendly and quick to help. My cat only cost me a one-time $100 extra fee.

Downtown Reviews

Good neighborhood convenient to hospital and most clinics. Have been able to suffice with metro and uber which saves a lot of money. Area has lots of restaurants, but somewhat limited options on weekends. Not the area for going out every night, more business-focused.
Filled with undergrad students, but good access to metro and easy to walk downtown to work. Also good access to supermarket, though the Whole Foods is geared more towards grab and go Foods than groceries
Lots of students. Not that many things open on the weekends. Conveniently located CVS, two coffee shops. New building going up on the block, so some construction noise.
Walking distance to the MCI Center and metro makes living in Mt Vernon easy as can be. Not to mention all the local restaurants and safeway on our block.
Bars and restaurants nearby, Whole Foods, Trader Joe's, CVS nearby for groceries, close to red (Farragut North) and blue/orange/silver (Foggy Bottom) lines. Georgetown and Dupont Circle are walking distance for more bars, restaurants, and shopping
I feel very safe in the neighborhood and I am very satisfied with the surrounding community. I love all the stores near by and the convenience.
I love being so central to everything. While being close to the silver line to get to work with a reasonable commute, I can walk 10-20 mins in any direction from my neighborhood to be in a variety of other cool neighborhoods.
It's whatever. You're surrounded by government buildings and are practically in GW. I hate to sound old, but the frat houses across the street get old very quickly.
