Recurring Issues with Billing Upon Move-Out

The apartment was adequate, but I experienced significant issues in the move-out process. Per my lease, I gave timely notice of my intent not to renew by email, received a confirmation by email that notice had been received, paid my last month's rent and utility charges in my portal, and turned by keys in on my last day of occupancy as instructed. Two months later I received an email with a bill alleging that I was two months behind on rent and utility payments. Apparently the billing system had the incorrect move-out date on my account; after several emails back and forth, I thought the issue was resolved. Two months after that, I received another email threatening me that if I didn't pay for utilities incurred *after* my move-out, my account would be sent to collections.

Acceptable Unit in Lacking Building

Overall, my experience has been mixed. I have had no issues with my unit itself. The appliances are old but functional, and the unit is quiet (the walls are thick). Management has been generally responsive, and I had a very positive experience with maintenance when I needed the pilot light on my stove checked. The biggest downsides are mail theft and the condition of the common areas of the building. There are no security cameras or other security features other than a locked building entrance, but that hasn't been enough to stop rampant mail theft. The mail room is always a mess from junk mail left around and empty boxes that have had their contents stolen. The common areas are also poorly maintained (dead bugs in stairwells, unswept floors, and old furniture left in hallways, etc.) despite notice to management.

Great location, large one-bedroom

Love that it's a quick walk to Trader Joe's and Walgreens. As long as the weather is nice, it's a nice walk to the Law School, and if the weather is poor, the bus stop is close by.

Cozy with a great location

I love my apartment and the somewhat secluded vibe. If you're a hard working student, it provides much needed separation from the law school to help keep you sane. The apartments are clean, nice, and offer plenty of space. The maintenance person is always on top of any repair and the management is very responsive.

Decent place, but a bit pricey

The apartment is decent and I have had few problems with it. The property management team is fine (hard to get in touch with at times), but the maintenance team is great. Location can't be beat (close enough to the Law School and to everything else you need to get to in Hyde Park). The rent is a bit steep and being on 55th, you can often hear the fire trucks passing by. Despite all this, it's a very comfortable and safe apartment building.
