Management Company was irresponsive to security concerns and stole money from us

We selected this property because the location was great and the units seemed updated. Unfortunately, our optimistic outlook did not last long. We had multiple instances of vandalism, our vehicles being broken into, and signs of attempts to break into our garage (we saw similar signs on our neighbors properties and they also commented about having the same concerns). We notified the management each time we noticed it and they did nothing to remedy any issues. It got to the point where my wife went home for a while because she did not feel safe in the apartment. Things got worse as our lease progressed. When it came time to renew the lease they raised monthly cost from 2400-3100. We opted not to renew. The last month they overcharged us by 2000 dollars. When we notified them they said we would get our money back from the security deposit, which they still have not sent us far exceeding the 30-day Utah statutory limit. We disputed the charge with our bank and notified and documented each complaint with management and they just stopped responding. We are very anxious that they will attempt to pursue some claim for an erroneous payment at the 6 year statute of limitations and attempt to sue us for cost plus interest. The worst rental experience I have ever had.
