Old, musty, moldy apartment at Mesa South
Mesa South is an old apartment complex that has old appliances, no AC, poor air ventilation. It smells musty and easily develops mold colonies that made me and my partner extremely sick when we were staying there and thus had to move out due to the terrible air quality (despite airing, cleaning etc).

Good management
The fixit group of UCSD grad housing is very responsible and always comes in time and successfully solve the problems

Good but limited availability
First of all, the prices for new batch would be around 950, I like that its good space for the price.

Grassy & sunny apartment with great value
I have really enjoyed living in South Mesa apartments. It is a quiet neighborhood close to campus. It was built many decades ago so the exterior shows its wear and tear, but the interiors are spacious and often updated with newer floor paneling and carpet. South mesa is great to live for dogs and kids, too. There aren't a ton of amenities but you do have access to all the other UCSD grad housing gyms and the pool at Mesa Nueva, and there is a shuttle to campus that runs every day during the academic year. The complex will be demolished by UCSD sometime 2026 to 2030, to accommodate higher density housing. I believe the UCSD Housing office has said they will relocate current residents to other UCSD housing apartments before demolishing, but just keep this in mind if you are interested in this complex.

PERFECT place for student families
I live here with my partner and two small children, and the community is amazing. There's lots of green space for the kids to play and explore, lots of play grounds, good bike riding sidewalks for kids, and there's just so many kids to play with. The apartment itself is a bit old, but the storage capacity of the apartment is amazing, and there's lots of room for us and our pets. The shower heads are weirdly super low, though.

Grassy & Sunny apartment with great value
I live with my long-term partner and our dog at Mesa apartments. We love our neighborhood and unit because it is spacious and has a great affordable rent price. The surrounding area is very grassy and sunny, making it great for walks. It is very convenient and easy to get to campus by shuttle, biking, or walking. Main downsides are that it is an older building (from the late 1960s) so it is not very aesthetically pleasing inside or outside and occasionally has temperature control and maintenance issues (for example, our plumbing). Also, since our unit is directly open to the outside, we have had issues with termites, crickets, and even mice. The management team is very efficient and fast to address these issues. Overall we highly recommend this apartment complex!
