Perfect Spot for Law Student

Love living in Westwood! 10 minute bus to campus/25 minute walk. Tons of restaurants/shopping nearby. Great if you don't have a car. Would recommend living here as a grad student.

N/A?

I enjoy my view and the layout is really nice. I prefer gas stoves and am grateful for having one, yet, the burners seem to give off a nauseating gas odor at times that is concerning. Considering the size, it is difficult to cook meals that require a pot and a pan since there is difficult space for both. The lighting is not the best and the random fire alarms that go off can be greatly inconveniencing.

Paseo is excellent

I've stayed in the same apartment at the Paseo for all three years of law school. I have a sizable furnished studio with a nice kitchen area. I don't love the layout of the apartment and wish I had a larger table provided so that I could entertain, but overall I've been very happy. While housing in general has not always been easy to contact, the staff at Weyburn in particular have been responsive, nice, and helpful.

Decent

It’s okay. Fire alarm goes off a lot though and it’s a pretty small space.

Studio Appartment Weyburn Terrace Paseo

The studio appartments are rather small but convenient. There is a kitchen with stove, oven, dishwasher and fridge, a lot of storage possibilites (under the bed, in the desk, night stand) and a closet. I am on the 5th floor (which is technically the second floor from street level), my window is facing the street but it is ok as it is not a busy street and there are palm trees. I locked myself out one time, but at Weyburn Commons, reception is occupied and it was easy to get another key card. It is expensive to live here (1700 Dollars), but L.A. is a very expensive city and I have not seen any comparable deals in the area. What I have the most troubles with is that the appartment is very dark with little daylight and the AC is getting on and off at its own accord, which is disturbing but one gets used to it. The weekly socials are great to meet other people!

Paseo

Convenient location. Studios are small–barely 300 square feet. Poor control over AC. The building is nice and quiet and there are a few study rooms. The units come fully furnished, but a lot of the furniture I do not want to use. But the building will not store them elsewhere so I have to keep everything in my unit. Not much sun in my unit.

Sweet Studio

I live with my partner so the space is sometimes tight, but overall we found we could configure the furniture that comes with the room and still fit a small kitchen table we purchased. The closet is generous and the bathroom is oddly large, but we tried to utilize the space to put our hamper and my cat's (my ESA) feeder and litter box in there. The cabinets are very very tall so if you are shorter as I am a larger step stool is useful.

Westwood Reviews

Westwood is great. Can take the Bruin Bus to get to campus easily so no need to pay for parking on campus. Westwood village is an easy walk with many great shops and restaurants. Westwood park is around the corner which offers all kinds of outdoor activities. Really enjoy living in this quiet, safe neighborhood.
Great college area, a little depressed because of COVID, but has a lot of potential and feels very accessible. Close to other nice areas like Brentwood or Santa Monica
Expensive, quiet depending on how close you are to undergraduate apartment buildings and the medical center.
The walk to Westwood is kind of long, I usually drive.
Westwood is a great area for graduate and professional students who are not from LA. It is walkable (grocery, pharmacy, restaurants, etc.), which is nice. Campus is close by, and a bus service runs from Weyburn directly to campus.

There is a large amount of homeless activity in the area.

It is a very young neighborhood. A lot of undergrads in the streets.
I'm not a city person, so it feels like there's nothing to do. I don't like bars or clubs, and I can't afford to eat out. Movies are pretty expensive, too. I would love more green space to sit and get away from the noisy 405. But there is a grocery store nearby, and there are a fair number of restaurants and movie theaters. There should be plenty to do for city people. Westwood feels like your typical college town, and it's full of students.
Lots of dining and grocery options at all price points. Very happy to have Ralph's and Target within walking distance (along with upscale groceries if that's your thing). 30 min to LAX or Santa Monica by car (if traffic is cooperative). Easy access to the 405. Lots of Uber cars around to take you where you need to go. Some quiet neighborhoods around campus that are good for running.

Some homeless people but overall feels quite safe. Only problem is that (surprise) it's definitely not cheap to live here.
Westwood is full of UCLA students. Everyone is friendly and there is a shopping center within walking distance of the apartment. Our apartment building is also filled with a lot of nurses or retired couples which is nice. We also have many foreign exchange students living here.
