Avalon First and M - the best there is

Avalon First and M is where it's at. The amentities don't get much better - rooftop pool and hot tub, huge gym, clean and spacious common areas. The staff (especially the concierge) and residents are friendly and helpful. The apartment has a cleaning crew that works almost every day and keeps the place looking spectacular. While NoMa is not yet the safest location, the building has positioned itself right near the NoMa red line stop and government buildings. We also have a Starbucks on the ground level and a Harris Teeter across the street. Love First and M!

Great Place!

I recently moved in to the Avalon First & M building in NoMa and so far have had a wonderful experience. The leasing office has been extremely helpful and attentive to my needs in selecting the apartment that best suits my needs. I love all the amenities. The gym is the biggest I have seen while I was looking around to determine what place to rent from. The location is perfect for commuters if you work in D.C., as the metro in very close so you can enjoy both work and pleasure by hopping on the metro to your destination.

Great apartment, even better location!

The apartments here at Avalon First and M in NOMA Washington, DC offer spacious rooms and ample storage. The amenities are well maintained and add to the luxury of living in DC! The community is constantly changing and improving with new fitness classes, donation drives, community activities, and so much more.

Overall, pretty great!

I have enjoyed my time at First + M. Management has been great, the amenities are killer, as are the location - right next to Harris Teeter and a couple blocks from the metro. Noma is not the safest place, I really don't venture out much because of that, plus there are no restaurants or bars - closest ones are in Bloomingdale. But the trade off is worth it to me, as the apartment itself has incredible amenities compared to other, older apartments in places like Dupont. If you like a gentrified area with new apartments and a lot of young people, this is a good option.

Management Ruins a Great Building

The building itself is great, the management is horrendous. When I first moved in, this building was managed by Archstone and was well run and kept. When Avalon took over, it was a disaster. Billing issues (they never updated our account and filed (what they later admitted to be) a completely bogus lawsuit for rent owed that we had already paid, on time), maintenance issues (have you ever lived three months with a washing machine that was filled with mold and a broken dryer upon move-in? I have. The managers were unresponsive, nasty, and entered our apartment without our permission on two occasions. Building itself is great, management makes this place unlivable.

Great building, bad neighborhood

Identified as an "up and coming" neighborhood, I expected the neighborhood to be a little better than it was. The building itself was great and didn't seem to belong in such a bad part of town. The amenities are really what set this building apart, the rooftop pool was just awesome along with the gym. The kitchen was also great, nice, modern appliances, which really adds value to the unit. The staff is also great and is always there if you are in need of their assistance. The front desk is always staffed so that added an extra sense of safety, it is needed in this part of town.

Great amenities

I have been living at Avalon First and M for about 2 years now and my overall experience has been great. It is conveniently located next to NoMa metro and the amenities are fantastic. If there is any service problem or anything needs to be replaced, the management takes care of it fairly quick. I would recommend this place!

Great Building, Amazing Amenities

This building is really awesome. It's brand new and has a whole list of great amenities. I use the gym all the time. It's large, never too crowded, and so convenient. The building also has a spacious and comfortable lobby and a rooftop pool and jacuzzi. There are many things I don't use much, if ever, but are nice to have (dog wash, movie theatre, outdoor theatre, music rooms). The concierge are always very responsive. Every time a light has gone out or the sink was clogged or a drawer broke, they had maintenance staff that fixed it while my roommate and I were at work. You definitely get what you pay for here. The apartment keeps really warm in the winter, and we barely even have to run on the heat. We also rarely ever hear our neighbors, so it's nice and quiet except for some street noise and the construction across the street. Overall, this is a great place to live.

Amazing amentities and brand new building for great prices

While the greater neighborhood still has improvements to be made the intersection is amazing and love everything about the building. Feels like we live in a condo we built ourselves and from the indoor movie theaters and rooftop pool, we feel live we're getting our money's worth and then some in this all encompassing lifestyle apartment.

Great Building & Mangement

I have lived at Avalon First And M for the last 2+ years and have loved it. While the location isn't in the best DC neighborhood (NoMa), there are plenty of benefits to living in this beautiful building. The amenities (pool, hang out rooms, gym) are clean, modern, and sleek. They are never crowded either. There is plenty of room to entertain in the common spaces as well. In the unit itself, I absolutely love having an in-unit washer and dryer, modern appliances, and floor to ceiling windows in some units. The design has thoughtfulness and purpose. In addition, the management company is quick and responsive to requests and are always friendly. Truly a great place to live.

NoMa Reviews

I don't venture too far outside of the few blocks of NoMa because outside of the neighborhood isn't as safe. However, the city has done a lot to revamp the area in the past few years, so there are new restaurants and bars opening up. I also live right across the street from the metro, which makes the rest of the city much more accessible.
NoMa is approximately a 35 minute commute to GWU. However, my roommate works on the hill which is less than 10 minutes away. There is a Harris Teeter connected to the building so you don't even have to go outside in order to shop for groceries. The area is still up and coming, so some of the surrounding streets don't seem very safe. However, it is getting better each and every day and it is easy to avoid those streets.
It's an up and coming neighborhood though I live in the very nice part of it. It's rough across North Capitol, but there's nothing over there to go to so I never run into any issues. There's a big dog park as well as plenty to do and eat at Union Market.
Neighborhood is okay. Everything is walkable. Bars/restaurants/grocery stores are super close by. Parking is usually available. Super safe (just don't go near the NY Ave Wendys after dark)
NoMa is up and coming - there are not too many places to eat/socialize in the evenings but the neighborhood is close enough to H Street that you don't feel too stranded.
It's growing like crazy but seriously lacks on the dining/nightlife portion. I like the geography and with the REI opening I'm hoping the nightlife will shift as well.
Fairly safe, though I wouldn't roam around a lot at night. It's certainly a transitioning neighborhood. Lots of people with dogs, big and small.
Noma is a cool area with young professionals mainly and has a lot of food/bar options! It's about 30 min from campus via metro, 20 min driving, (don't walk to campus). The apartment itself is super safe, as is the immediately surrounding area. But it isn't safe to walk west of the area or too far north either.
