UCLA Treats Weyburn Residents Terribly

UCLA does not let Weyburn residents drive to school. Instead they provide a bus that only comes weekdays, only comes 7-5, is usually late, and sometimes is full. The bus only comes ever 15 minutes at best. If your class ends after 6 PM you're walking home in the dark. Of course anyone can buy a blue pass to drive around campus or a day pass at a discount EXCEPT Weyburn residents.

Furthermore, they instituted a new mailroom which is terrible. You can only get your mail at specific times and if you don't get it within 2 weeks they send it back. When I moved in all mail went into mailboxes which each unit had and could be opened at any time. That's gone now. In the summer the mailroom hours are Monday through Saturday 9 to 5 so if you have a 9 to 5 job you can only get mail ONCE A WEEK on Saturday.

Also, the furniture is terrible. The bed frame is so large it takes up half the room. I have no idea why they bought monstrous wood frames for small rooms.

The only good thing I have to say is that when things break, maintenance comes quickly.

Hard to Get Student Housing

I need accommodations for housing and was supposed to have guaranteed housing but wasn't given it. This meant I was unhoused for 6 weeks because I couldn't find accessible/safe housing in Westwood. UCLA housing is not great at getting the people who need housing a place to be and not something to rely on. That said, my apartment is high quality for the price and is everything I need for me and my partner.

Solid Housing But Hard to Get

I think Weyburn is nice and close to campus but I did not get to move into my apartment until 6 weeks into the semester.

Good Student Housing

My apartment suits my needs as a UCLA student. It's close to the bus stop and downtown Westwood. It's also comfortable and decent-sized. The apartment has seen some ware, but everything works just fine.

Decent

It's clean and safe but the walls are pretty thin and now that undergrads are allowed to live here, it has been more noisy and crowded

Stable Living Situation

The apartment has exceeded my expectations. The apartment complex is clean and safe. The apartment is spacious and was clean when I moved in. Maintenance is responsive. I was worried about natural light, but my roommate and I get plenty of sunlight in our bedrooms. The air-conditioning is a huge plus! The apartment is sufficiently close to campus and in Westwood, so there are plenty of walking-distance stores, restaurants, and bars. The noise level is low, occasionally moderate. Parking is a separate fee, but easy to navigate and in a gated garage. The laundry room has plenty of washer/dryer units. My only complaint is lack of storage in the kitchen, but it has not diminished my positive experience. I would recommend living here.

Fine, No Frills

Reasonable price for the area, several convenient ways to get to campus. Communication with the administration could be better, everyone working in the office seems to be an undergrad student that could use more training. Maintenance is responsive to work orders. Appliances are all good, except the Mickey Mouse oven that comes in the studios.

Weyburn

Unless you live in a studio, living in Weyburn is absolutely not worth it. The accommodations are incredibly average, not clean, and overall not worth the high price. Additionally, the parking is very expensive and not secure-- my boyfriend's car was stolen from the parking lot. The parking also precludes residents from purchasing parking in other campus parking lots even though most of the graduate schools are over a mile away.

Westwood Reviews

Westwood is great. Can take the Bruin Bus to get to campus easily so no need to pay for parking on campus. Westwood village is an easy walk with many great shops and restaurants. Westwood park is around the corner which offers all kinds of outdoor activities. Really enjoy living in this quiet, safe neighborhood.
Great college area, a little depressed because of COVID, but has a lot of potential and feels very accessible. Close to other nice areas like Brentwood or Santa Monica
Expensive, quiet depending on how close you are to undergraduate apartment buildings and the medical center.
The walk to Westwood is kind of long, I usually drive.
Westwood is a great area for graduate and professional students who are not from LA. It is walkable (grocery, pharmacy, restaurants, etc.), which is nice. Campus is close by, and a bus service runs from Weyburn directly to campus.

There is a large amount of homeless activity in the area.

It is a very young neighborhood. A lot of undergrads in the streets.
I'm not a city person, so it feels like there's nothing to do. I don't like bars or clubs, and I can't afford to eat out. Movies are pretty expensive, too. I would love more green space to sit and get away from the noisy 405. But there is a grocery store nearby, and there are a fair number of restaurants and movie theaters. There should be plenty to do for city people. Westwood feels like your typical college town, and it's full of students.
Lots of dining and grocery options at all price points. Very happy to have Ralph's and Target within walking distance (along with upscale groceries if that's your thing). 30 min to LAX or Santa Monica by car (if traffic is cooperative). Easy access to the 405. Lots of Uber cars around to take you where you need to go. Some quiet neighborhoods around campus that are good for running.

Some homeless people but overall feels quite safe. Only problem is that (surprise) it's definitely not cheap to live here.
Westwood is full of UCLA students. Everyone is friendly and there is a shopping center within walking distance of the apartment. Our apartment building is also filled with a lot of nurses or retired couples which is nice. We also have many foreign exchange students living here.
