Love that I got a balcony- wish this was an option as I feel bad for those who do not have a balcony. The Mail system here is insecure. The non-central staircase and multi-level access is difficult to navigate as a person with mobility issues/disability. Thankful for furnishings. Everything in decent condition. Quiet and pleasant complex.

Okay for the price

The best part about living in Weyburn is definitely its proximity to campus and public transit. The apartments are a little under market value for a bedroom this close to UCLA, but you can find better apartments for around the same price if you are willing to live a little farther from campus. The appliances and furniture are very old and sometimes gross.

Just alright

The apartment is ok, not great. The staff is slow to respond to maintenance requests and the fire alarm has gone off 4 times in the middle of the night since I moved in. The carpets are stained and the rooms are very small. It's pretty expensive (when factoring in parking) for what it is but it's nice that utilities are included and furniture is provided. The main thing I have a problem with is I thought the apartments would be closer to campus... It takes 30 minutes to walk to and from class up hills and through sketchy parts of the area. The bus is super unreliable. I would have preferred to live somewhere 20-30 minutes away DRIVING and parked super close to campus.

Okay Housing

The location is very convenient for students, however, the housing itself is nothing special. Units are very outdated with old appliances and no overhead lighting. There is a laundry room downstairs, which is nice to have, but it is poorly maintained and the washing machines can get pretty gross.

The Noise Pollution Will Drive You Crazy

I lived in both a 2-bedroom in Sycamore and a studio in Paseo and am currently moving AGAIN into Hilgard with moderate hope that it will be an improvement on my other UCLA Housing experiences.

Many parts of Weyburn Terrace are too close to busy streets and construction. I lived in North Philadelphia for four years with roommates and had a much more peaceful time. So, weigh whether the price and convenience make poor sleep, constantly-broken focus, ear infections, and tinnitus from extended earplug/headphone use worth it.

Sycamore was plagued by endless construction noise/drilling, construction trucks driving along the street outside my window, and music booming from delivery trucks and the cars of the people who lived in the adjacent apartment building. The construction trucks and workers making noise when they parked in the structure beneath Sycamore woke me every morning around 6:30am-- a nightmare for a night owl. Noise seeped into that room as if the windows weren't even there and the AC within the room was itself loud. Now, the setup of the 2-bedroom is great because the living room is between the bedrooms so my roommate and I never really heard each other. When the Weyburn construction is done, this may be a much more livable situation but who knows when that will finish or if UCLA will launch into even more construction right after. And just so you know, there are no locks on the individual bedroom doors, so hope that you have a trustworthy roommate with trustworthy guests.

If you decide to live in UCLA Housing, I implore you to go for the two-bedroom rather than a studio for reasons I will get into now. Most Paseo rooms do not hear the construction. Mine didn't, but the studio presented noise concerns of its own. The corner of my ceiling emitted frequent bursts of a metal popping sound, again tending to wake me up around 6:30am. I had several maintenance people come by to inquire about it, including the supervisor, and I was simply told they could do nothing about it and that they would not take the step of opening the ceiling to find out what the issue was / how to fix it. So, you run the risk of getting room 416 and suffering the same fate, and I have to assume that isn't the only room with an issue like this that no one is willing to try to remedy. Additionally, the fridges are unreasonably, jarringly loud. The AC is also loud again, and this time you can't control when it turns on/off. Unknown whirring sounds will also disturb you for hours each day, and a generator as loud as an airplane engine coming from a nearby UCLA facility will disturb you occasionally as well, for up to 24 hours at a time. Also, if your room faces the alleyway behind Paseo, every day you will have the garbage truck come up directly outside of your window for 30-45 minutes. Not to mention handfuls of maintenance trucks with equally loud motors AND maintenance workers having the loudest conversations anyone has ever engaged in outside of your window sporadically for varying lengths of time all day every day despite how many times you call dispatch asking them to address the issue (these are not work conversations either, as they include uproarious laughter and sometimes last up to 45 minutes). You also had better hope you have respectful neighbors, because you will be able to hear them talking, watching TV, playing music, cooking, etc. to your right, left, and upstairs. Your bathroom is basically the only place you can find quiet, and that's assuming your neighbors aren't playing music in theirs at the same time. Oh, and every time anyone in the hall cooks something pungent or smokes what must be the cheapest weed on earth, the ENTIRE hall will smell like it all day. Smoking is prohibited, but the RAs won't do anything about it if you call to report it. Maybe you can open your window to air things out, but with all of the noises to avoid out there, you're basically trapped in a sensory house of horrors. So there you have it, save yo

Excellent place to live and thrive during your graduate education

I would highly recommend Weyburn Terrace for a graduate student who is either seeking to live solely alone or with roommates. It could be a great opportunity for folks to live in a quiet, yet friendly community while completing your graduate studies. It is walking distance to UCLA and is in the heart of Westwood, which also provides walking distance to the Kinross Rec UCLA gym for grad students and faculty. The staff at Weyburn Terrace, particularly the custodial staff are the heart of this community, making everyone feel valued, important and cared for. They are truly integral members in sustaining our community and uplifting one another amidst COVID-19. I hope you will consider applying to live at Weyburn Terrace.

Mostly good except for the ants

The apartment is comfortable and in a convenient location. There has occasionally been an ant problem around the sink in the kitchen.

Westwood Reviews

Westwood is great. Can take the Bruin Bus to get to campus easily so no need to pay for parking on campus. Westwood village is an easy walk with many great shops and restaurants. Westwood park is around the corner which offers all kinds of outdoor activities. Really enjoy living in this quiet, safe neighborhood.
Great college area, a little depressed because of COVID, but has a lot of potential and feels very accessible. Close to other nice areas like Brentwood or Santa Monica
Expensive, quiet depending on how close you are to undergraduate apartment buildings and the medical center.
The walk to Westwood is kind of long, I usually drive.
Westwood is a great area for graduate and professional students who are not from LA. It is walkable (grocery, pharmacy, restaurants, etc.), which is nice. Campus is close by, and a bus service runs from Weyburn directly to campus.

There is a large amount of homeless activity in the area.

It is a very young neighborhood. A lot of undergrads in the streets.
I'm not a city person, so it feels like there's nothing to do. I don't like bars or clubs, and I can't afford to eat out. Movies are pretty expensive, too. I would love more green space to sit and get away from the noisy 405. But there is a grocery store nearby, and there are a fair number of restaurants and movie theaters. There should be plenty to do for city people. Westwood feels like your typical college town, and it's full of students.
Lots of dining and grocery options at all price points. Very happy to have Ralph's and Target within walking distance (along with upscale groceries if that's your thing). 30 min to LAX or Santa Monica by car (if traffic is cooperative). Easy access to the 405. Lots of Uber cars around to take you where you need to go. Some quiet neighborhoods around campus that are good for running.

Some homeless people but overall feels quite safe. Only problem is that (surprise) it's definitely not cheap to live here.
Westwood is full of UCLA students. Everyone is friendly and there is a shopping center within walking distance of the apartment. Our apartment building is also filled with a lot of nurses or retired couples which is nice. We also have many foreign exchange students living here.
