Edgewood

10th Most Diverse Neighborhood in Washington DC
Edgewood is a pleasant, green neighborhood between Brookland and Pleasant Plains in the Northeast quadrant of Washington, D.C. The neighborhood ranks highly for diversity in the area and is great for families, young professionals, and students attending a number of universities in walking distance, including Howard University to the west, Catholic University to the north, Gallaudet University to the south, and Trinity Washington University within neighborhood borders. Families also have access to highly-rated schools served by the District of Columbia Public Schools (DCPS) system.

Edgewood, mainly a residential area, has great options for luxury condos, apartments, and more affordable row houses. Restaurants are found along the neighborhood's edges; however, grocery shopping will most often be done south of Edgewood at Brentwood’s Rhode Island Place Shopping Mall. In terms of entertainment, Edgewood has plenty to offer. The neighborhood is home to the Edgewood Recreation Center, which features a swimming pool, basketball court, tennis court, and playground. The neighborhood also hosts the breathtaking Van Gogh Immersive Experience, which is a spectacular sound and light exhibit based on the many works of Van Gogh.

Edgewood — 8/10 Rating (based on 12 neighborhood reviews)
The directly surrounding area, Monroe Street and Michigan Ave, are are built up and geared towards the university students. However 1 block away begins poverty and thus it is not uncommon to see beggars, homeless people, and youth from the surrounding neighborhoods on the streets directly outside the building.

It's a combination family neighborhood with lots of college students in the area. There's always something going on and there's a farmers market every Saturday.

Neighborhood is pretty safe. Not much to do in the immediate area though. Brookland-CUA area Starbucks and restaurants and some bars are a 15-25 minute walk away. Trinity center is a 5 minute walk away where you can find subway, Mediterranean food, a deli, and a pharmacy.

There is no grocery store within walking distance. I take the bus or bike over to Columbia Heights to do a lot of my shopping. The deli within walking distance has terrible food and is kind of expensive. The Pakistani place however has amazing grub, but can get kind of pricey. Catholic University's library is across the street which you can apparently use if you're a student. There is no common space/lounge areas at The Cloisters.
