Great amenities and location

5 management rating Reviewed by on

I live with my wife and dog here at the Edison. The distance from the HEC might scare some, but it is 10-15min by car and I have never had issues being late to class or getting to and from rotations on time. We lived in University Circle for M1 year and felt it was a little boring and isolated from the rest of Cleveland. Since moving we have loved being on the West side and will remain here until graduation.

Building: There's a very nice outdoor heated pool area that's open from ~May/June through September. There's a fitness center that I wouldn't call outstanding but is free and has all of the essentials for a comprehensive workout. There's plenty of green spaces for dogs and a large group of residents with dogs have what we call "dog parties" every day out in a courtyard where we let dogs off leash and go play. Some apartments have a great view of Lake Erie, and many come with a small balcony. Uncovered lot parking is free and only for residents, ample street parking around property for anyone.

Location: The apartment sits next to a bike/pedestrian path that is a 10min walk from Edgewater beach and park in one direction and will allow you to bike downtown in the other direction. Gordon Square is an small artsy/hip area with some great restaurants and small locally run shops. 5 minute drive to Ohio City, 5-10 minutes to downtown, 10 minutes to Lakewood. Close to multiple highways.

Management: NRP Group. Management is slow to respond often but I have not had any significant problems. Maintenance people are amazingly friendly and helpful; if you take a little time to build a relationship they will go the extra mile to help you out/make sure you're taken care of. 24/7 security and police cruise through the area on a regular basis. Always feel safe around the property.

Cons: Price is high. We are fortunate enough that my wife works in a field that allows us to afford the rent, but I do know that it is comparable to places like Centric in Uni Circle especially when amenities and parking are factored in. Many features of the amenities are subject to the wear and tear of the hundreds of residents over the past couple years, such as a few exercise equipments taking some damage or TVs in the pool area not always functioning properly.

Don't Live South of the River!

The apartment itself is great, and good value on its face, but the commute to the law school is up to 50 minutes because of traffic. I highly advise incoming 1Ls to look elsewhere even though this complex may be tempting.

Worth the commute

It’s a bit of a commute (about 30 minutes during morning rush hour), but I love it. It’s right next to an HEB and a lot of other stores, and it’s on South Congress, so just down the road from the classic SoCo places. The whole area’s being developed right now at a rapid pace, so it’s probably going to get more crowded than it already is, but it’s not nearly as crowded as the area right near the campus. There’s a gym, a pool, and an area with a grill and cornhole for barbecuing, and it’s so much cheaper than anything in North campus, especially for all of the amenities that come with it.
