Billing and Maintenance Issues

When I moved in, the apartment wasn’t cleaned or painted (and acknowledged by the Manager but not remedied [the toilet wasn’t flushed, mold in bathroom, holes in walls, etc.]). When I left, Commerce Tower charged $1,365 for cleaning and painting, even though the defects existed prior to my occupancy and the apartment was cleaned and better than at lease inception. The elevator stopped working more than once and maintenance requests were not fulfilled. I moved out when the lease term ended (nothing required notice that I was vacating the premises as required by lease); the lease stated it “does not automatically renew”). Nonetheless, Commerce Tower kept charging rent at a higher rate and demanded rental of $2,243.27 for periods after the lease ended. Commerce Tower then turned the matter over to a collection agency and filed reports with the credit bureaus.
