Getting Around
Philadelphia

Center City Philadelphia has many transportation options: driving, buses, trains, trolleys, Ubers, shuttles, bikes, and walking. Philadelphia is one of the most walkable cities in the country, and if you live and work in the city, it’s likely that walking and the occasional Uber will meet all your needs. But in case you have a long commute, want a car, or otherwise have unique transportation needs, here are all the options we can think of to get around the city.

Driving in Philadelphia

Parking in Philly:
Since free parking is nearly non-existent in Center City, you’ll probably have to pay to park your car. If your building includes parking (a rarity), you’re set, but the rest of us will have to find a lot to park in. Although it’s not hard to find monthly parking, it’s definitely expensive: you should budget at least $200/month if you’re looking for monthly parking in Center City. Alternatively, if you live in a less-crowded area of the city, you might be able to get monthly permit street parking for $35/year.

Highway Access:
If you’re commuting with a car, you might want to take into account how close your parking or home is to highway access. The major highways in Philadelphia are i-76 in the west, i-95 in the east, and the Schuylkill Expressway, which runs across Center City and connects the two.
