Murray Hill

A Home for Recent Grads and Newcomers
Murray Hill is an up-and-coming neighborhood for young professionals and students looking for a casual but energetic area to live. A variety of dining, from budget cafes to chain restaurants and Koreatown to Curry Hill, dot its streets. Sports bars and other upbeat pubs line 3rd Ave for fun Happy Hours and enjoyable nights out. Murray Hill comes with the ultimate conveniences - supermarkets, drugstores, laundromats, gyms and fitness studios, bus and rail lines, and Grand Central Station a 10 minute walk away. While this neighborhood's vibe is quite young, it does have some impressive historical and cultural buildings, such as the Morgan Library & Museum, Scandinavia House, and Sniffen Court with its stunning carriage houses.

Recent graduates are flocking to Murray Hill due to its reasonable rents. You can choose between prewar townhouses, elegant mansions, and modern high-rises. Couple that with affordable and diverse dining, a lively bar scene, and beautiful walks along the East River, Murray Hill is the perfect place for those seeking comfort and a good time.

Murray Hill — 8.4/10 Rating (based on 10 neighborhood reviews)
Neighborhood is great, very safe. There is a 24 hour Duane Reade right on the corner, a yoga studio next door, dry cleaner next door and Gristedes one block away. Lots of restaurants just a few blocks down. A movie theatre in Kips bay. Indian grocery stores and restaurants on Lexington ave and 28th street. Trader Joes around there somewhere too. The closest train station is grand central which can get quite crowded and is a 10-12 minute walk away from the building.

Very close to Grand Central Terminal, convenience can't be beat. But area is not residential at all, unsurprisingly.

Pros - Fairway at 30th/2nd ave, which is wonderful. Route E shuttle goes to 30th/1st ave, so it's easy to get to and from campus on weekdays. Very quiet area, but with lots of restaurants and a fair amount of nightlife. So close to Penn Station, which makes it easy to get to the airport and to leave the city.

Cons - It can feel far from the heart of campus, and I'm constantly taking cabs and public transit back and forth; combined with high rent, this can get expensive.

I love my neighborhood, it is very quiet. If you head a little east it is a lot busier so I try to avoid that.

On the fringe of Murray Hill. Not really in the heart of it where most recent college grads are.
