University Circle

"Greater Cleveland's Cultural and Educational Center"
Located just outside of downtown, it is a great spot to live where you are not directly in the hustle and bustle but can choose to be when wanted with accessible public transportation. The highly rated Case Western Reserve University brings a college town feel with students and offers a walkable community. It is home to artistic, cultural venues and museums, including The Cleveland Museum of Art, the Cleveland Museum of Natural History and the Crawford Auto Aviation Museum. With ample parks like the Cleveland Botanical Garden, Wade Park and Lake View Cemetery help boast nature in the lively neighborhood. Dozens and restaurants and bars occupy the streets with a wide range suitable for all palettes, such as Mia Bella for Italian food with a Mediterranean twist and L'Albatros Brasserie for French dining and fine wines.

Walkable
University Circle — 8.7/10 Rating (based on 85 neighborhood reviews)
It's part urban and part suburban. There are nice walking trails around wade oval, but could be dangerous if you're alone during the early or late hours of the day. Walk with a friend or group of friends.

Close enough to campus buildings so there was enough light that I felt safe enough, but once I left campus, felt a little more alert.

The building is in between two large hospitals, Cleveland Clinic and University Hospitals, making it very easy for me to get to class/rotations. It is generally safe. The Case Western Reserve University police and Cleveland Clinic patrol the area almost constantly, and I have always felt secure. Additionally, I am close to museums, coffee shops, libraries, bars, and nice places to eat, study, and hang out.

It's a wonderful neighborhood - walking distance to all the museums, botanical gardens, and some of the best restaurants in Cleveland. Also walking distance to a couple coffee shops and the CWRU library and student center, so ideal for studying. The best part: < 5 min commute to school and you get to avoid Cedar coming down the hill.

Living in University Circle while in law school has made a stressful experience pleasant and less complicated. The walk to campus (which is in University Circle) is fabulous - not having to battle hospital traffic and find parking is great. There's a Constantino's Market that provides all grocery needs. University Circle has a diverse range of food options - from upscale dining at L'Albatros, to comfort food in Little Italy, to fast casual in Uptown, you could probably eat somewhere different every night for a month, all within walking distance.

University Circle is THE hub for cultural activity in Cleveland. The Cleveland Museum of Art is my favorite place in the Circle. It has fabulous permanent exhibits and brings in wonderful temporary exhibitions. The museum hosts social events that are perfect for young people more than once a month. The Circle also contains Severance Hall - home of the Cleveland Orchestra, the Cleveland Botanical Gardens, the Natural History Museum, and more!

The area is fairly safe as it is heavily patrolled by UCPD and Campus Police. Ambulances frequent the area to get to the hospital, but that is the only noise complaint I've ever heard of.

I couldn't be happier about living right in University Circle during law school.

University Circle is a very active and fun area for young adults with many restaurants and campus buildings. There are many things to do if in school. The one downside to University Circle is the lack of an affordable grocery store. There is one grocery store on Euclid; however, the prices are unreasonably high. Thus, to purchase more fairly priced groceries, you will have to drive out into other boroughs. Similarly, there are no nearby places to buy clothes or other necessities like medicine. Free parking is also scarce. Thankfully, Case Western offers a bus to Walmart.

University Circle seems relatively safe as long as you don't move further into East Cleveland. There is lots of police presence but I still don't feel very safe being outside past 10-11pm. For transportation, the public transit options are not great if you try to go anywhere besides campus or downtown. Getting to surrounding suburbs like Cleveland Heights is difficult without a car.

Uptown feels safe, and being near CWRU facilities like the gym and the bookstore is a plus! There are tons of fast food options, as well as fancier restaurants in Little Italy within walking distance, but not a lot of grocery options. Also, being right near the hospital means there is a lot of noise, and not just during the day. Easy access to the Red Line, the Health Line, and other public transportation. Definitely good for people without a car.

It is nice to be so close to University Circle (walking distance to the Cleveland Art Museum and Botanical Gardens) and the walk there is safe after dark. Uptown has a lot of restaurants, mostly of the fast food type (eg. Chipotle, Qdoba, Jimmy Johns). There's also a grocery store (Constantino's) but it's kind of a last resort since it's more expensive than most grocery stores and typically has more limited selections. I think it's a mostly safe area, although the closer to East Cleveland you get, the more likely there will be security reports. Super close to the school and hospitals but there will be lots of noise from emergency vehicles because of the hospitals.

There is a nice commercial district in the middle of University Circle, and there are some perks to being near the undergrad campus (bigger police presence for safety, nice landscaped areas, nice food places that market to young adults), but there are also drawbacks (campuses tend to draw in crime, loudness at times). I get text alerts from local police departments through CWRU, and there is fairly often criminal activity in the streets surrounding this apartment. I don't feel safe here at night, and frankly not even in the daytime on some streets. There are not frequently people out for walks or runs in the surrounding neighborhood; that type of activity is generally limited to the campus itself.

Honestly, a decent neighborhood given the campus area. If you really like a night life, this may not be the best place for you, as the only place within walking distance is really little Italy. It's nice being close to campus, coffee shops, food places (e.g. Jimmy Johns, Chipotle), the book store, libraries, etc. They also have Huntington National Bank and UPS in the same building. If you want to park your car, both buildings are next to a parking lot where you can purchase a permit through Case Western.

The apartment building itself is very safe. It requires a key to enter the building. The neighborhood is pretty safe. I've heard from many other people that East Cleveland, which is a short walk away from these apartments, is very unsafe, and I've been told not to go there. I really couldn't be any closer to the law school. It's a 5-7 minute walk away.
There is a lot of noise because it's located on a busy street and ambulances drive by often.
