Fairly Decent Apartment

This is the only apartment I have ever lived in. From what I gather, it’s your typical apartment. Maintenance crew is pretty good but not great. Rent is pretty cheap for the area. Perfect location compared to the school (right around the corner)!

Okay but wouldn't recommend

6 management rating Reviewed by on

The apartment is great at first for those who prefer to be in quiet living quarters as each unit in the complex is either a studio or 1-bedroom apartment. The commute to school is only about 9-12 minutes depending on traffic. However, the parking situation is inconvenient for a downtown location. You can choose to pay $110 to park in a garage that also serves as a short-term parking garage or $125 to park in a gated lot in front of the building. I would not recommend this complex to students because the management also just implemented a ratio utility billing system, meaning your unit will be billed a flat-rate for utilities based on the square-footage regardless of actual usage.

Cost-effective with detractors

2 management rating Reviewed by on

The apartment complex is very cheap, which is good. However, maintenance and the office (not the people in charge of setting up apartment leases/interviews) workers are very bad at communication and following through with building issues in a timely manner. Because the complex is so old, it is easy to see how this can become an issue. All in all, it is a cost-effective apartment with reasonable amenities, but the management is not very responsive in such a way that it undermines the living experience.

Pretty good place

I have lived there for a year now, and it is a pretty solid apartment. The proximity to the school is extremely convenient and they allow pets which is perfect for me and my cat. I have had minor issues with the plumbing (for example the kitchen sink drains very slow) but maintenance is at least quick to respond.

Positive Living Experience

I have lived at the Brookwood for a little over a year and love it! It is right around the corner from campus. My roommate and I have had minor maintenance issues within our apartment. While I feel issues aren’t always fully resolved, maintenance is quick to respond. Overall, I have had a positive living experience!

Good location

Parkside is in a good location with safe and secure access to garage and parking which is important for me. It also has good views of Railroad park. Only downside is that the noise from concerts and events in the park can get loud. Floors are a little thin and you can hear your neighbors from above stepping a lot. But, the noise is not too bothersome. Most apartments have thin flooring anyways. Overall I have lived here for two years and have no issues with management.

Pretty good

Overall the apartments themselves are nice, there are significant amenities. Management is sometimes not responsive enough. Price is high. Area is definitely nice. Downtown/midtown still has a fair amount of crime/homelessness but at least it is close to UAB/hospital

Parkside is great

Parkside is definitely expensive but I think it's the highest quality accommodation in Southside. Rooms are modern and complex is new. Management is pretty friendly and timely about replying to concerns. There are many amenities: lounge, courtyard, pool, yoga room, gym. It is above Red Cat cafe and Mile End Deli which are both great.

Vista is Great!

I have very much so enjoyed living in the Vista. It's conveniently located in Germantown. Germantown is home to many bars, artisan restaurants, bakeries, etc. I love that I am able to walk to dinner at night. The apartment is great. High ceilings, great parking, and friendly people all around.

Great modern apartments

The Germantown Vista apartments are pretty nice. Although I haven't had a chance to swim in it, the pool looks great and I love the outdoor firepit/big screen TV. The gym is also nice. The closets are large and the kitchens are up to date. The management and everyone who works/lives here seem very friendly and accommodating. They are very pet friendly. The only downside would be I wish the stairwells and hallway carpets were a little more clean.

Overall I'm pretty pleased with the Vistas. The apartments feel safe, although as someone coming from another large city, the price seems extremely high for what you get. My partner and I live in a 2 bedroom that fits us okay- a one bedroom would be way too small for 2 people and their things, in my opinion. It also seems for the price you should get a real balcony, not a 'juliette' balcony. Unfortunately there are no bars nearby, but there are a few restaurants.
