Good location

The actual unit is good and you really can't beat the location. It is nice to be able to deal directly with the owner rather than through a management company if we were in an apartment building. However, the building management has made a number of cosmetic changes in the past year that has felt like a waste of money.

Excellent place

My girlfriend and I have had the best experience at our apartment. We have polite and helpful doormans at the building, a great floorplan with good space in the bedroom, restroom, kitchen and living room. Excellent natural light, hard-floors. The only possible thing that could be better is location since this place can be a little far from where usually most of people are.

Great natural lighting, friendly and helpful staff

Pros: We're in an east-facing unit that gets great natural lighting all throughout the day - a very important requirement for my wife and I. The bathroom in our unit is also very spacious and comfortable (nice marble floors/finishing). The front desk staff is always very friendly and helpful. There's a gym in the top floor of the building that's small but gets the job done - the rest of the public facilities there are also great (meeting room, entertainment room, and outdoor deck).

Cons: The windows in the apartment unit are of an older design that doesn't seal completely. As a result, small bugs are able to find their way into the apartment easily (stuff like silverfish and little gnats).

Great location, but the building could be more social

The Packard Grande is very centrally located, but not for party-ers.

Condo building with great amenities

The packard grande is a condo building so you rent directly from the owner of your unit. The units are very nice with hardwood floors, nice countertops, and appliances. Most units have a combined washer/dryer in the unit. There is a doorman on staff 24/7 and a nice lounge floor with rooftop terrace, business center, and gym. The only downside is that the building is located far from campus and can be loud at night since it's on the corner of 15th and sansom.

Excellent apartment

We are very happy with our apartment. It is very spacious and is very well illuminated; kitchen, bathroom and bedroom are very well distributed. There is a gym at the top of the building and membership is included in the rent. The only thing we are missing is a pool.

Food kitchen behind the building = lots of bums

The apartment is great, but the management company is awful. They operate several other apartments in the fringe/up-and-coming areas. Wife and I have a newborn so we wanted a cheaper place (second bedroom + parking spot gets intense in center city). We like our apartment, can't stand the management, and live with a food kitchen behind our building. Not recommended for families.

A case-study in how a luxury high rise condos should be run!

My wife and I can't say enough about how much we love the Packard Grande. The building is a great place for young families and couples. There are also a lot of other grad students and young professionals in the building--though not that many Wharton students. The neighborhood has improved significantly over the last couple of years, and the building itself is extremely safe. We really enjoy the community amenities as well, like the gym and the game room. It's great for hosting small gatherings and its nice to have some common area work spaces when you want to get out of the apartment. Best of all is the wood flooring (hard to find in Philly) and the floor to ceiling windows that let in tons of natural light. Although it is a little expensive, I can't imagine a better building to live in if you want to be in the heart of Center City.

Hidden Gem near Rittenhouse Square

I spent the last 2 years at The Packard Grande and it's been a great experence. I have floor to ceiling window and an amazing view of the Philadelphia Skyline. The staff has always been helpful and my neighbors have been great. The surrounding area isn't the safest, but the doorman keeps the strangers out of the building. Also, the utility bill can get a little steep in the winter, but it's a small price to pay for a high quality apartment in the Rittenhouse area.

Great building, questionable neighborhood

The Packard Grande is a great building, with excellent service! However, the location is not ideal. The building is on the corner of 15th and Chestnut and the area can feel unsafe late at night.

Walnut street is very safe - there's always people around and it's well lit. The neighborhood includes all of the fun aspects of living in Philadelphia - tons of access to food and bars, nearby grocery stores/markets, access to the parks and the Schuylkill River Trail
Very close to fun restaurants/bars/shops. Close to the subway as well as the train station (suburban station).
Rittenhouse is the safest part of Philly. It's a very "happening" part of town—lots of restaurants and bars on every street. At the same time, it's right next to more residential neighborhoods to walk around in and explore. It's a great place to live relatively close to the law school but with a degree of separation so as not to get trapped in the law school bubble.
The neighborhood is both quiet and lively. There is so much around, but I have never had an issue sleeping or studying because there is too much noise. The broad street line is a 10-15 minute walk away and we are close to shopping, food, the park, and the river trail. Has everything within a 10-15 walk.
This neighborhood has everything I need within walking distance. Shops, grocery stores, parks, the subway and trolley, post office. You name it. It's very safe and extremely quiet, which helps when I'm trying to study. The Rittenhouse Square area is really the best place to live in Philly if you don't mind paying a little more.
I love this neighborhood and knew I wanted to live here when beginning my apartment search. The park is one of my favorite places in the city, and I love being able to easily access all the restaurants and shopping nearby. It's also an easy (~20 minute) walk to Penn Law, and the walking commute has always been a nice and peaceful part of my day.

Spruce Street in particular is great - it's a little south of the square, so is quieter/shielded from a lot of the traffic that the neighborhood gets, but it's not out of the way or far away. There's a Starbucks, a grocery store (Rittenhouse Market), and a few corner stores (Four Seasons and Food & Friends) within a 2-3 minute walk of my apartment.
Love the neighborhood, Rittenhouse Square is beautiful and we are so close to the more commercial areas like Walnut Street while not being in the center of the craziness. Plus we are within walking distance of public transportation including 10 minutes from the 15/16 street PATCO station. I personally think it is one of the best areas of Philly to live in.
Rittenhouse Square has a park in the center surrounded by a bookstores, restaurants, and a public library. It is open to pets and often has open art / food markets on the weekends. It is close to the Broad Street Line and PATCO. There are many families who live in the area. It is affordable compared to other major cities (NYC, DC, Boston), but there are certainly more affordable areas in Philadelphia, simply without the luxury of being so close to Center City.
