Spacious and good location but poor management

Apartment is nice, amenities are a bit old but otherwise spacious and bright. One ensuite and one bedroom with a separate bathroom. Bedrooms have carpets! Bills can get expensive in peak winter (e.g. $300+). Management of the building is terrible if you do have an issue - unresponsive and take ages to resolve an issue.

A few quick notes

Quality apartment building, responsive management, brand new gym, great location that is right by bus stops, close to lots of good food, across the street from apple store (huge for people that have Macs/iPhones). Good value, can't go wrong

Great Value for the Price

Great value for the price. A little far from campus, but close to everything in Center City. Management company is not horrible, but not the most responsive. Overall, I'm very happy with living here.

Really happy with my choice

1600 Walnut is good value for money
. I've never faced any serious problems. The management company is not very responsive but thankfully for me I never faced any serious issues
. The option to get Verizon internet (and NOT Comcast which sucks) is a big plus
. Go and see the apartment for yourself before signing the lease
. The security deposit for international students is twice the rent.
Really hard to find a similarly spacious apartment with good natural light, 2 bedroom/2 bath, washing/drying unit, central heating, etc. at this price in the Rittenhouse area.

Good place to stay but some downsides

Apartment is big and spacious, kitchen is a little outdated. Rooms are a nice size and having hardwood in the communal areas and carpet in the rooms is a good combination. Management has been extremely slow to respond to issues - it took them over 6 weeks to fix one window.

The building is actually pretty decent.

Its a very basic building without a gym, doorman or other luxury amenities. The fixtures are still in very good condition and my apartment is relatively big. The only issue i have is the management company is very slow to respond when you contact them.

Good building, large apartments, amazing price. Some other Wharton students, but not packed with them (good mix)

Simple building (no doorman) at great location, large apartment, amazing price. Recently the company that owns the building (PMC) has been refurbishing all apartments with hardwood floors, which makes a big difference. We really like our apartment. Building is clean (i.e. no bugs, rodents or anything like that)

Good value; good location; no doorman; no frills

No nonsense building at good value in an excellent neighborhood. There is no doorman and the management company is only so-so, but the space is large enough and the location is very good as well. Close to Rittenhouse and many popular restaurants and bars. The positioning right on Walnut means the bus stop is 25 feet from the front door of the building. Also the 21/42 buses always have space in the morning (not always true closer to campus). I have been generally pleased with the apartment here and believe it is good value at $1350/mo, though cable, internet, and utilities are not included.

It's Perfect!

1600 Walnut is cheap and a great value for how much space I get. Doesn't have a doorman, but they have this double glass door/locked lobby system that works. They are super responsive (management) when needed. Overall it's been good.

Excellent location and value.

The area around 1600 Walnut feels safe to walk home at any time of day, however you do get some street noise.

Rittenhouse Square Reviews

Walnut street is very safe - there's always people around and it's well lit. The neighborhood includes all of the fun aspects of living in Philadelphia - tons of access to food and bars, nearby grocery stores/markets, access to the parks and the Schuylkill River Trail
Very close to fun restaurants/bars/shops. Close to the subway as well as the train station (suburban station).
Rittenhouse is the safest part of Philly. It's a very "happening" part of town—lots of restaurants and bars on every street. At the same time, it's right next to more residential neighborhoods to walk around in and explore. It's a great place to live relatively close to the law school but with a degree of separation so as not to get trapped in the law school bubble.
The neighborhood is both quiet and lively. There is so much around, but I have never had an issue sleeping or studying because there is too much noise. The broad street line is a 10-15 minute walk away and we are close to shopping, food, the park, and the river trail. Has everything within a 10-15 walk.
This neighborhood has everything I need within walking distance. Shops, grocery stores, parks, the subway and trolley, post office. You name it. It's very safe and extremely quiet, which helps when I'm trying to study. The Rittenhouse Square area is really the best place to live in Philly if you don't mind paying a little more.
I love this neighborhood and knew I wanted to live here when beginning my apartment search. The park is one of my favorite places in the city, and I love being able to easily access all the restaurants and shopping nearby. It's also an easy (~20 minute) walk to Penn Law, and the walking commute has always been a nice and peaceful part of my day.

Spruce Street in particular is great - it's a little south of the square, so is quieter/shielded from a lot of the traffic that the neighborhood gets, but it's not out of the way or far away. There's a Starbucks, a grocery store (Rittenhouse Market), and a few corner stores (Four Seasons and Food & Friends) within a 2-3 minute walk of my apartment.
Love the neighborhood, Rittenhouse Square is beautiful and we are so close to the more commercial areas like Walnut Street while not being in the center of the craziness. Plus we are within walking distance of public transportation including 10 minutes from the 15/16 street PATCO station. I personally think it is one of the best areas of Philly to live in.
Rittenhouse Square has a park in the center surrounded by a bookstores, restaurants, and a public library. It is open to pets and often has open art / food markets on the weekends. It is close to the Broad Street Line and PATCO. There are many families who live in the area. It is affordable compared to other major cities (NYC, DC, Boston), but there are certainly more affordable areas in Philadelphia, simply without the luxury of being so close to Center City.
