Great Complex

Fenwick is a great complex, the staff are all amazing and the community holds multiple events each month. There's a real sense of community in the building. Its also a great location for anyone that wants to be close to city amenities (the metro, restaurants, a concert venue, etc.) but wants a quiet neighborhood space to go on walks. It's a bit of a commute for American University students, so I wouldn't recommend it for anyone looking to be on campus frequently. But if you are looking for a good spot for you and your family, the complex can't be beat and the drive isn't bad.

Safe and Luxurious

I live here as a single woman and feel extremely safe. Fob everything, cameras, concierge. The location is perfect bc it’s a very short walk to the red line (you do have to transfer to get to campus though) and is a short drive to campus via 16th or Georgia. Average 22 min, early morning 13 min, traffic 30. The units themselves are typical luxury style with big windows and modern everything. My favorite amenity is probably the amazon hub for secure package pickup. Also gym, courtyard w pool, clubhouse, small rooftop deck, business center, underground garage. Limited study spaces but rarely occupied anyway. Extremely welcoming staff and the residents are great. 100% pest free. I always have peace of mind when I come home.

I’m used to it, but the only drawbacks are train noise and the construction. The windows are very soundproof though and the construction is only an issue if you have a car. Also a tip for all apartment buildings: try to sign your lease during “off season” (not summer). My rent is only this low bc I signed in February to move in June.

My opinions

I love it here. Stayed here my first 2 years, only moving next year to be close to the hospital. Its safe and close enough for me 17 mins typically, 23 with traffic to the school. I have a nice big 1 bedroom and bath for about 1359 a month in a moderately priced dwelling unit (MPDU). You must ask apartments if they have MPDU units available, then ask for an application. And my parking is 125/mo making it about 1485 for rent and parking. And my water bill is never more than 10$ a month.

Fenwick is great

From the start, my experience has been great. New apartment no problems, close to metro, affordable for DC area, extremely close to downtown SS but private at the same time. Staff is great and a social apartment building. Amenities are very nice and clean.

Great Apt!

The apartment complex is very nice. Great amenities. The only downside is living on the metro side it can get a little noisy at times. But overall very safe, friendly staff and neighbors. A lot of complex events make it fun to live here and also great location!

Spacious with nice finishes!

This place is rare find in downtown Silver spring--2 BR/2 BA + den! The amenities are great, and the Brocoloco artwork in the common areas gives the place a unique look. The staff is very professional, and the maintenance team responds quickly!

Love Fenwick

Great apartment -- mostly young couples living there! Parking garage with ample space, pricing gets slightly expensive, but it's worth it. Very pet friendly :) Front desk staff are attentive and very friendly. Pool is a little small, but that is the only complaint!

Enjoy living in the suburbs

I'm a Maryland native with a boyfriend and a dog, and boy is Silver Spring the place for us. We're so happy we got into the Fenwick at the beginning. The location, a couple blocks from the Silver Spring metro, can't be beat, and the apartments are gorgeous.

Getting around Silver Spring

Silver Spring Reviews

66 reviews
Slower pace, smaller and safer than DC, but has all the same offerings. Ethnic restaurants, shopping, nightlife, nature trails, public transit, farmers market. Very diverse, aesthetically pleasing and walkable.
There is a ton to do in downtown Silver Spring. The Veterans plaza area has great restaurants and bars. The farmers market on Saturdays is huge, and my favorite part of the weekend. Lots of young couples, and families.
I lived in silver spring since undergrad and have no complaints. Front desk does good job of not letting random people into building. You need key fob to access most areas of building so feels very safe
There is a lot of green space, and the walk to the Metro station is really nice. It's quiet, which we really like.
Right in the heart of DTSS so a lot to do and a lot of great restaurants.
It's only a five minute walk to the red line metro stop in downtown Silver Spring (which is only three stops from campus). As someone who does not have a car, it is in an excellent location as everything is within walking distance (although the bigger grocery stores like Giant and WholeFoods are a bit of a farther walk- about a half mile). The apartment is right around the corner from one of Maryland's Federal District Courthouses and a wonderful brewery that offers a lot of fun and safe outdoor dining options due to COVID-19. There is also a farmer's market in downtown Silver Spring's center shopping area every Saturday morning. The noise levels aren't too bad as the apartment is on a side street rather than the main roads in the downtown area.
Pros: Across the street from a park and quiet neighborhood for children to play. The neighborhood is good for a quiet run. 7-11 across the street for quick snack and coffee runs. 5 minutes away from downtown for restaurants, shopping and movies. 5 minutes away from metro station. Grocery stores and mall within 10 minutes.
Cons: Traffic. elevated noise due to multiple high rises amplifying outside noise.
DT Silver Spring is very much a city. It's more diverse that DC neighborhoods tend to be, with people from everywhere, of all income and education levels and of all ages and life-stages. This makes for a pretty eclectic place. There are three grocery stores in walking distance (including a Wholefoods) and the Silver Spring metro and bus station (a hideous looking monstrosity) ensure you can get anywhere pretty easily. The train line can be pretty noisy when the freight trains come through, but you get used to it.
