Kirkwood Review

It is pretty nice and quite. Does not rent to undergraduates.

Premium Downtown Apartment

Located in an ideal downtown location across the Crazy Horse, somewhat pricey but apartments are high quality and typically older residents so the area is kept very clean and quiet.

Worth the money to live like a grown-up

I chose The Kirkwood because it was the largest available apartment I could find in a building without undergrads. While it's on the pricier side relative to where many of my classmates live, it has a great location that allows me to walk anywhere I want downtown, Kroger is only a few blocks away. Many of the residents are retirees or older adults, so it's not like an undergrad apartment building.

If you live on the side facing Kirkwood Ave, it can be noisier at times relative to other apartments and you might have street lights near your window, but I don't think those are disqualifying. The gym is the size of a one-room unit but it's almost always empty and is pretty well furnished.

A little dark, but quiet and safe

My apartment is a little dark (even in full sunlight), but it's quiet and very safe. It's also within walking distance to so many great places downtown and to IU campus.

The Kirkwood

I'm very happy with my decision to lease at The Kirkwood. It has a great location that allows me to walk almost everywhere I need to go. The building is secure, and management and maintenance are responsive. It's a pricier option but the floor plan is large and there's extra storage available in the garage. The gym is small but it's almost always empty, so I'm able to use any equipment I want.

The only word of caution is if your unit is located closer to Kirkwood versus the south side of the block, there can be some noise from vehicle/foot traffic, as well as some light from street lights. These shouldn't be disqualifying factors though.

Occasional loud neighbors

Overall it's a great place. Neighbors are mostly professionals, graduate students, and people who have retired. One or two undergraduate tenants can be loud on game weekends.

Quiet, wisely designed apartments

Nicely located close to downtown ares minus the noise. Responsible and organized leasing team and maintenance team. Quiet neighbors mostly comprised of graduate students or professionals. Reserved underground parking. IU graduate students get monthly discount. Only con is that the parking lot can be narrow. Some apartments do not get adequate direct sunlight. Pets friendly.

Great spot

The apartments and building are very nice. Quiet but there are other grad students and families in the building. Maintenance is good and the location is as close you can be to the action without being in the action.

The Kirkwood

It’s clean, safe because of auto rock, and quiet even though it is located in downtown. Also, the response from the management company is great. Kroger is 5 mins walk. It’s a bit inconvenient to ride a bus and to go to Kelley in winter or on rainy day but you can walk to school by 20-30 mins.
