South 16 at the Bridges

I really enjoy living at South 16. There is free parking, a nice gym, a pool, and a nice patio space, too. The apartments aren't big - but I find it to be plenty of room for myself and my cat. The commute can't be beaten - one crosswalk to the FBRI. It's also in close proximity to the Carilion Wellness gym, the highway, and downtown.

The location is very convenient to VTC campus and the apartments themselves are very nicely designed. The grounds and amenities are poorly maintained - lots of dogs and owners who don’t pick up after them, smokers, and overall messy people whose messes grow into the common areas. On ambulance route to hospital so you’ll hear sirens. Management is good about fixing things or cleaning if you ask them. They won’t typically do anything organically.

These apartments are close to campus, but the walls are so thin, I can hear my neighbors coughing. There is constantly dog poop in the hallways, stairwells, etc. The only benefit is the proximity to campus.

Great location but the staff are not very friendly based on my personal experience. Walls are not soundproofing .

Pros:
Can walk to school in <5 minutes.
Small gym included
In-unit washer/dryer
Pretty nice
Close to Starbucks.
You can pay extra to have pets (a lot of pets around)
Pool open during summer
Management on site so you can bother them as needed to get things fixed

Cons:
Sometimes there are concerts in the park nearby (can be distracting/create traffic), maybe once a month when weather is good.
Some people complain the walls are thin (depends on your neighbors and your unit).
Price
Parking is $20-35 extra.

The apartment is very new with granite counters and stainless steel appliances. The layout is not the best, but it's a great apartment building. Gym included. Roof deck and pool amenities. Management is very quick about fixing things. A bit on the pricer side for Roanoke, but both school and the hospital are within walking distance so it's very convenient.

I have had a good experience living at South 16! It is very close to school and all of the Riverside complexes. There is always plenty of parking that you do not have to pay for. The walls are pretty thin but all my neighbors are quite. Management is very responsive. Pets are welcome. I enjoy using the pool and gym.

Pros: free parking, quiet, convenient location, new apts, prompt response from managment, lots of students/docs live here, pet friendly

Cons: more expensive side, garage has had multiple thefts, small space for the $
