Good for the price
I think that Westgate is the perfect option for anyone who is looking for a cozy place that has everything you need for 3 years, but nothing extravagant. The price includes every utility, cable/WiFi, parking, gym ,etc. and is still less than most of what my friends pay for a shared bedroom is some of the "nicer" complexes in the area. It isn't luxury (think carpets, tan walls, gas stove, etc.), but it is cozy and I think I will be staying here for all 3 years. I would definitely recommend having a car if you live (although it is right on the bus line) but it's anywhere from a 5-10 minute drive to the school depending on the traffic.

Great place!
I love my apartment. It's an 8-minute drive from the law school, so it's a nice cushion when I need some space. However, it's not too far to where I feel I'm missing out on all the social events. The neighborhood mostly has families and older people, so it's calm and peaceful.

Perfect distance from school to take a break
My apartment is a 10-minute drive from the law school, located in a quiet neighborhood mainly made up of young adults and their dogs! I would recommend getting a third floor apartment if you can because you CAN hear your upstairs neighbors walking around.

Westgate Jr One Bedroom
Great! Very responsive management and maintenance is always around and ready to help with anything. Super nice. My apartment doesn’t have in unit washer and dryer and the complex only has coin laundry so I’ve had to use a laundromat.

A Good Quality Option for Students in Charlottesville Living Alone
Overall, I have had a good experience living at Westgate. Because I spend most of my time on North Grounds for school, it is nice to live in a slightly separate part of Charlottesville where I am living amongst more families/members of the community, as opposed to students. I drive to school each day (around 8-10 min., depending on traffic and being strategic about avoiding heavier traffic in the afternoons by driving down Barracks to Georgetown instead). I park right in front of my ground floor apartment, which makes getting to/from my car with groceries, when it's raining, etc. really easy. Management has always been very friendly and responds quickly to my maintenance requests, plus the application process for the complex was relatively much easier than for some other complexes I looked at in Charlottesville (e.g., they understand UVA students often don't have a source of income alongside school, so they require less documentation when you're applying re: paycheck stubs and instead accept documents confirming your enrollment in school). The appliances here are slightly older, but generally get the job done, especially since I live by myself. In-unit washer/drier, which is also very helpful. I do have louder upstairs neighbors who love to play video games in the middle of the night <3 but there's a lot less sound coming through the walls next to me from my next-door neighbors. I have a couple larger windows in my apartment which help provide light, but since I'm on the ground floor and people park right next to my apt., I don't often open them (which is just more specific to my specific unit). So long as you aren't leaving the door open to the outdoors for long periods of time, bugs aren't really an issue - the occasional spider or beetle, but only a couple roaches since I've lived here (which I think is typical of anywhere). Lots of closet storage, which was helpful since I moved from across the country and have a bit more to store. There's not as much storage in the kitchen and no pantry, so I mostly store food in my cabinets - again, since I live by myself, this doesn't pose as much of an issue as I have less to store. Overall, I sometimes wish I had a bit more space/a more updated apartment for the price being paid; however, this apartment has been a great, cozy place to live for my first two years of living on my own, especially while doing law school, and I can't complain about having the Trader Joe's only two minutes away from me. I would certainly recommend putting Westgate on your list of places if you're looking for a place next year.

Westgate Charlottesville
The Westgate is a very good place to live - it is less than 10 minutes driving distance to North Grounds and is close to Stonefield/Costco/Trader Joe's. It is very easy to get into (about 10 minutes to downtown) and out of C'ville (it's a half-mile off of US-29). The rent is fair and I have not had any issues getting maintenance requests fulfilled in a timely manner. The neighbors are a mix of people - some students, some families, and some older folks, but most are friendly and keep to themselves. I have not had many issues with noise or nuisances in the complex. I would recommend the Westgate (or Barclay Place, which shares a campus and management company) to any student who would prefer not to live in the immediate vicinity of North Grounds (it's nice to have that distance!).

Great
Great size for me and my partner. Although the price is a bit steep, it does pay off in the long run because so many amenities are included.
