Great value, great management

I have lived here for nearly 6yrs and it has been an amazing experience. It's very spacious and well-maintained. It's managed by a husband and wife team that do the overwhelming majority of maintenance and administration, so issues are promptly addressed and I don't ever feel like I am getting scammed. The 2 bedroom 1 bath is $685, and while all my friends were having their rent raised yearly, in all the time I have been here, they only raised my rent once, just earlier this year.

The area is also very safe, loads of young families, and overall pretty quiet except on high school football nights (which really aren't very often) and during the county fair in July. Having CiCo park right across the street is overall very nice.

The only downside is that they do not allow pets and it's a little far to campus, but I've looked into moving before to try to address both of these and every time I've concluded that there wasn't anywhere I would rather be without paying substantially more rent, risking bad management, or living in an area I don't want to live in.

Plaza West-great apartments, decent landlords

I feel safe living at Plaza West. The apartments are clean, and it is well-lit at night. I had never seen a cleaner apartment when I moved in. After living here a year, you are automatically switched to month-to-month rent with no extra charge, so moving out will be a breeze for me. Electricity bill is around $40 in the summer, and about $65 in the winter (I have a basement unit). Plenty of windows and light! The landlord is not good about fixing non-emergency repairs. For instance, me and two other residents have light and cold air coming in from a crack between our front door and the frame, and the landlord will not come and fix it. He tried fixing mine once but he did not do it properly. He also took a few months to fix my friend’s oven.

However, I am happy I moved here. The neighborhood is one of the cleanest and safest in Manhattan, if not the most! It is right by Cico park, so it’s easy to take a nice walk or go for a run. You are also close to Dillons. You aren’t really within walking distance of any stores or shops, but there is a bus stop just across the street from the apartment complex if you need public transportation. Plaza West is affordable, clean, and safe!
