Deming Pavilion Good Bang for your Buck

Deming is a great place to live if living on a budget, but you are very much getting what you pay for. The one BR/one bathroom spaces are very limited. There are spaces that are facing the courtyard and thus have little sunlight. There is a gym that is a separate fee and not open 24/7. Many of the study rooms in the building are closed and/or do not have good ventilation. There is no central AC in any of the bedrooms. One service elevator near the back of the building, convenient for moving big things in. There is a university police station next to the building and 24 hour security at the front desk. There is additional security adjacent to the walkway from the hospital during Mardis Gras only. Although the public library and bus stop facing directly opposite the apartment is not safe, the street outside of it is. When the city loses power during severe weather events, Deming usually keeps its power because it is attached to the hospital. It is very convenient for medical students in their first two years, especially first because of anatomy lab, but no longer in the third and fourth year, being that the former Tulane Hospital closed down. I made a great core group of friends because of Deming and it has been a very memorable part of my education, but am overall relieved that I moved out.

Cheap 1b1b

For 1050 a month, Deming is far, far cheaper than other similarly sized apartments in the area. That being said, I would never rent anything smaller than the 1b1b. The small studio in particular is tiny, more akin to a freshman dorm than an apartment complex. The elevators break constantly, and the interiors are dated at best, but the price can't be beat and the gym is huge. Parking costs an extra 100 a month, but the parking department are some of the least cooperative people on campus and are currently not issuing new cards for accessing the sky bridge back into Deming. There is no central AC, just one unit in the bedroom, which makes the temperature in the living area almost impossible to control. Windows do not open and the particular intersection Deming sits on is a bit...wacky. But it is very safe (great security) and also within walking distance of the quarter, which is appreciated. Unfortunately, that great security comes at the price of having to check all guests in, making hosting groups larger than a few people a real pain.

Deming

It's not as great when compared to where most of the students in the school of medicine live but it's not bad either. It's affordable, fully furnished, and conveniently located. The studios are small and feel like a dorm room. The one-bedroom apartments, on the other hand, are reasonably priced and spacious. Especially those on the upper floors facing the street (the view is actually quite nice). I think it's a great option for people who do not have a car or people who want to live downtown at an affordable price.

Deming review

It is largely structurally adequate (no leaks, roaches, clean and well lit enough) but the utter lack of charm or character begins to wear on a resident soon enough. It is not a social place, and while it is convenient to live near classes, you are living in an industrial-feeling area that is the campus and other buildings.

Review for Deming

Good price, especially it covers all utilities. It's close to school, and the security is good. Amazing management team too.
However, the surrounding area is very dangerous, and the fire alarm goes off too often. The windows cannot be opened. And parking in Saratoga is very expensive, compared to other nearby garages. And it's noisy here downtown, and the AC unit I have is super loud.

Deming

Deming studios are extremely small (around 210 square feet) but provide furnishing and on floor laundry and all utilities included. It is also walking distance from Murphy, and provides indoor walking access to Hutchinson.

It’s a very convenient apartment complex to get started in that’s usually worth the size and quality tradeoffs.

Convenient for taking classes

It is very close to JBJ building, tidewater, and Hutchinson Building, therefore it is convenient for me to take classes and attend lab. It also has some groceries shops nearby, which is also convenient.
Tulane also has shuttles to help students do grocery shopping from Deming Pavilion to Walmart. It also has a Tulane fitness center on the lobby.
There is One thing that i don’t like is the windows. The windows are all sealed (which means I cannot open to make the room ventilation )

Deming Pavilion

Deming is extremely convenient for working/studying at the Tulane SOM, but keep in mind you are in the middle of a downtown area and that the amenities are rather basic.

Great housing complex

I live in a studio and I love the experience so far, however it’s kind of expensive.
