West End Towers

The apartment complex is great. Multiple doormen, very safe and quiet guests. I chose to live here because of its proximity to campus and I continued to live here because it has a very peaceful environment with many amenities. Perfect for a law student.

Nice apartment but location could be better and bad value-for-money ratio

The apartment is ok; it has a modern kitchen and wooden floor, and three closets for clothes and other stuff. Also, move in was very quick and uncomplicated. However, all together not worth USD 4,500 for the following reasons:
- It is two blocks away from the main road with metro. Its just a little too remote and the walk gets a little annoying - in particular as a woman at night.
- The other renovated apartments seem to have their own laundry machine, which mine doesn't. From the high price, I am not sure this apartment was originally supposed to have a laundry machine, but just never installed it (they also told me when I moved in that they are just about to replace the AC/heater and never did and my neighbours were very surprised that there is no laundry machine, so it seems like they just to "forgot" to put it in or never did because they found a person stupid enough to pay USD 4500.- for this).
- When I moved in the place was just disgusting and not clean at all (cat hair everywhere, cat toys under the oven, yellow grease all over the kitchen). - - - They are always renovating something above your head and within the first 5 months they turned off the water three times for some renovations.

Convenient walk to class!

I really like the apartment complex. It is a short walk to campus (6-7 min), right next to Riverside Park, offers a free commuter shuttle to Columbus Circle and Lincoln Center (not to school, but the station), has doormen, packages delivered to a front desk, and is overall quiet. Lots of young families live in the complex too.

Great housing experience

I really like the building I am living in. It is very secure and building management is very responsive. It's expensive but worth the price for the most part. For cooling, it was great but I never needed to turn on my heat into mid-December presumably due to heat rising from units below. It wasn't a problem at that point but I think it could potentially be as we enter the much colder months. Also, for the social aspect, I don't know if it's the pandemic or the building but I haven't really seen very many other residents and haven't found anyone who is a similar age to hang out with.

Upper West Side Reviews

The neighborhood is in the middle of where the more expensive Upper West Side meets the Morningside Heights area. Depending on what street you're on, you might be closer to the lower-income part or high-income part. There's awesome restaurants with affordable food on Amsterdam Ave, but if you want a more secure area, you can live closer to Broadway or West End and feel more like you're in the "real" Upper West Side.
I love the Upper West Side, it's my favorite space in New York. It has the benefits of the City that Never Sleeps but can also be very quiet and residential. There are great restaurants, bars, shops, public services... There are two major parks on either end (Central and Riverside) and you can access the 1,2,3, B and C trains. The UWS and UES also happen to be where a good chunk of Manhattan's medical practice is, so there are tons of doctors and medical services within walking distance.
It is right on the line between the Upper West Side and Morningside Heights, so it has all the benefits of the UWS neighborhood with the prices of MoHi. Great bars and restaurants, very quiet, easily accessible by public transportation. The neighborhood has numerous parks-- Riverside Park, Morningside Park, Central Park-- and is great for pets, but the buildings are not necessarily as friendly for them.
The Upper West Side has plenty of bars/restaurants. Again, I'm close to Riverside and Central Park, so I get to exercise or walk in them whenever I please. West End Avenue is almost entirely residential, so it can be a bit quieter than living on Broadway/Amsterdam/Columbus; however, it's still quite close to all the restaurants and bars on those busier streets.
There are so many restaurants near by and the express subway so when you want to go downtown it’s a short trip. There are also lots of clothing stores and it’s just closest to school that you can walk and it’s easy, but just far enough away that you do not feel like you are always there.
This location is close enough to Hell's Kitchen but not necessarily in the mess that is Hell's Kitchen. I like being close to central park and the columbus circle subway. Warner Center, although dated, has a whole foods that opens until late.
Location is one block from Columbus Circle, across the street from Lincoln Center and nearby transportation makes it a breeze to get anywhere.
Love the neighborhood. Always new places opening. Convenient with high end shopping, great grocery stores, and parks on both sides.
