Upper West Side Reviews

I love the Upper West Side, it's my favorite space in New York. It has the benefits of the City that Never Sleeps but can also be very quiet and residential. There are great restaurants, bars, shops, public services... There are two major parks on either end (Central and Riverside) and you can access the 1,2,3, B and C trains. The UWS and UES also happen to be where a good chunk of Manhattan's medical practice is, so there are tons of doctors and medical services within walking distance.
This location is close enough to Hell's Kitchen but not necessarily in the mess that is Hell's Kitchen. I like being close to central park and the columbus circle subway. Warner Center, although dated, has a whole foods that opens until late.
Expensive but good food and bars around. Not very loud at night. Safe to walk by yourself
Upper West is a very safe, family-focused albeit expensive neighborhood.
UWS is an underrated neighborhood. It is both family oriented while also being filled with young couples. It has a neighborhood vibe, but also has tons to do. Every month there are new additions to the neighborhood that bring the downtown vibe uptown. The UWS is also very narrow compared to the UES so you only need to walk 2 blocks to be in Central Park or 2 blocks to be down by the river. This is great for people that love to escape their apartments, have a great place to walk their dog, bring their kids, or take a casual stroll on the weekends.
Super convenient to school and also has everything you could need. Multiple grocery stores (Whole Foods, Trader Joe's, smaller bodegas), retail shops, restaurants, bars, movie theater, gyms. I feel very safe here at all times. There tend to be a lot of police around Lincoln Center and it can be crowded at times but overall it is a great place to live.
Spacious. Extremely easy and fast commute to Fordham Law. Relatively safe, but still need to be careful. Nice place to live if its your first time living in NYC since its on the quiet side. A bit far away from the nightlife and restaurants downtown, and almost impossible to get to the northeastern section of lower Manhattan by public transportation.
West End Avenue is generally very quiet because it's all residential buildings. Food is nearby on Broadway and Amsterdam, but many (expensive) supermarkets are on West End. The closest subway is the 1 at Lincoln Center which is about a 10-minute walk. Important to avoid walking to school from West End to Amsterdam via 64th street - that area is sketchy, walk down 65 instead.
