Eh

It's cheap, and you get what you pay for. Old building, no amenities. If you have to pay $200-$300 more for a different 1 br (or a studio for the same price) that's closer to Rittenhouse, do it. Friends have way better places for the same price or less.

Good value, great location

Certainly a "no frills" building. There is no gym or any other high end amenities. That said, the apartments are spacious and the building is in a great location. Prices are very reasonable and utilities are included in rent.

Great location

Great bang for your buck, cannot beat the location! Lots of old charm in this apartment building. Could use some upgrades, but love that your utilities are included. Wish they would allow dogs! Great water pressure in the shower. Just added a second elevator which has improved wait time for it!

Westbury - best bank for your buck

Overall I love living here. It's a little bit farther from school than most other places, but you get a huge space for ~$500 less than anywhere else. Management is incredibly responsive, everything works well.

Good value, except for the internet

The building is old, but the apartments are big, and the rent is low. There's a 24hr person at the front desk which is great for deliveries, but you still need a key to get into the building, and guests need to call up from a call box. Maintenance is very responsive.

Internet and cable are the only real issues. The building doesn't get Comcast, so you have to either get direct tv and verizon high speed internet, or the cheaper option, Hotwire communications (which I have) and is a bit slower than other providers. Their cable package is. Pretty standard, but there's no cable box, so no dvr. For $75 a month for both services though, not terrible.

Great Value

The Westbury is no frills, but offers great value. I have not found anyone who lives in a managed building near Rittenhouse that pays less. Utilities included. Service staff is pretty quick if you need something. Downside- Street is pretty noisy since they opened Howl at the Moon. Temperature control can be an issue in the winter. The building can get pretty warm, but you can usually just crack a window and it is OK. You also are captive to a pretty bad cable/internet service (at least cheap though)

Great location, cheap rent, older building, charming but a few issues.

Overall, the Westbury is a good value apartment building and has a good location. It is a little farther away from school, but is close to a lot of nightlife and recruiting events (which often occur at the hotels on Broad street, one block away). It is an older building, built in the 1920s, which gives it some charm. The rooms are large, with big windows, crown molding and interesting tile in the bathroom. Most of the apartments have beautiful wood floors. The rent is much lower than surrounding 1 bedrooms. However, there are some downsides that come with the lower rent and older building. Some of the plumbing is old and it shows, although there is always hot water and the pressure is good. The heat is central, with old furnaces, and it can get too warm in the winter. I have seen one or two pests throughout my six months living here, although management has been quick to respond to any of my issues. Overall, it is what you would expect from cheaper rent and an older building. It does have doorman and 24 hour package delivery, which is nice.

Great value for Center City

The Westbury is a little no frills, but it is hard to find better value in a managed building in Center City. We haven't had any problems with the management company at all. Utilities are included which is a nice perk and removes a little uncertainty in the monthly bill which is nice for a student. One disadvantage is that the building is only wired for cable and internet from a company called Hotwire communications, so Comcast is not available. /

I love everything about living at 2116 chestnut, except for the rent. My apartment is new, updated, clean, floor to ceiling windows, large closets, has a doorman, and includes a great gym and amenity floor. It is a quick walk to work (~20 min from CHOP/Penn). The management is excellent, and fixes anything that breaks within a day. It is very quiet, I have never heard a peep from my neighbors or upstairs. My only gripe is the rent. My unit is a corner unit on a high floor with a balcony, so you could find a 1BR on a lower floor for a little bit cheaper.
Rittenhouse Sq is the hub of Wharton social activity, but consider where in the neighborhood you are - east side has more shops/restaurants but is farther from campus, grocery stores seem to be mostly NW of the square, SW is probably the quietest. South side (and anywhere away from the square) tends to be cheaper, quieter, more residential.
Safety: With the exception of Wendy's on Chestnut Street, Rittenhouse Sq (near City Hall) feels pretty safe (I used to live near Oakland, CA so gauge your level). In other words, I never feel unsafe walking back home at 2-3AM as there is always considerable foot traffic on Chestnut St.
Really lovely neighborhood. Everything you could want is a short walk away. The dog park by the river is great.

You can save money and have a similar experience by moving towards Spruce and Pine St.
Living in Rittenhouse Square you are right in the middle of everything. It's a 20-30 minute walk to Penn but also an easy bus ride on the 21/42 (two of the more reliable SEPTA lines). It can be a little noisy and crowded but it is also incredibly safe and one of the only parts of the city where I feel totally comfortable at any time of night. Likewise it is more commercial and just less "charming" than living in a neighborhood like Fitler Square.
We are a few blocks away from Rittenhouse Square itself, right across the street from City Hall. The only complaint is that the street noise can be very noisy even on the 15th floor. Otherwise it has been great to be so central in the city to everything and for my student, so close to the trolley station at City Hall that runs him right to campus in 10-15mins.
Rittenhouse is the premier location in the city of Philadelphia. Great restaurants, bars, shopping, and a beautiful park in the center of Philadelphia. It is an easy walk to the law school, and there are buses, taxis, and uber if you don't want to walk. It's nice to get away from campus at the end of the day to an exciting but not terribly noisy environment. Also a ton of law school students live in the area, and many of the bar review bars are around here.
Pros: There are many great places to eat / drink in Rittenhouse. I think the area is overall pretty safe.

Cons: 1) there are a lot of homeless people around the area. You can't leave your apartment without being asked for money several times. 2) there is no grocery store very close. Best options are Trader Joes and Whole Foods, but both are a decent walk.
