Whittier

Historic and Residential Area in Central Boulder
Whittier is a charming neighborhood east of Downtown Boulder, known for its historic charm and convenient access to various amenities. While Whittier is a peaceful residential area home to many single-family residences and student homes, it's just a short walk or drive away from downtown Boulder and Boulder Junction, where you'll find a vibrant arts and entertainment scene as well as loads of shopping and eateries.

On the west end of Whittier, you can experience the urban flare of Downtown with close proximity to historic archives in The Museum of Boulder, natural and organic groceries at Ideal Market Boulder, and modern and eclectic dining options from cafes to pubs.

The east end of Whittier gives access to Boulder Junction’s extensive retail scene. Just a short drive or walk away, residents can shop at their favorite stores like Whole Foods Market, Trader Joe’s, REI, and Target, and they can find their favorite brands at the Twenty Ninth Street shopping mall.

Whittier’s location and historic Victorian homes give it a high walkability score. College students and families with children especially appreciate the proximity to Downtown, University of Colorado Boulder, and Whittier Elementary School.

Whittier — 7/10 Rating (based on 6 neighborhood reviews)
This neighborhood and quaint and quiet. There a very few distractions and nuisances. It had a nice mix of old and new builds and the people appear friendly.

The area around the complex gets a little noisy sometimes. I've never had trouble sleeping because of it, though. I would not say that I feel in danger walking/biking around the area, but I could imagine how some people would. Public transit is close by, which is nice. Access to Pearl St. or CU Boulder is simple, which is also a plus.

The neighborhood is lively during the day (lots of dogs and their owners out for a walk), but generally clams down and is quiet at night. Except for the occasional drunk group of friends walking home on Friday night and talking way too loudly.
