Greenpoint

Old School Ambiance Meets Contemporary Hipster
Due to Greenpoint's strong Polish community, the neighborhood is often referred to as "Little Poland". The delicious Polish delis, bakeries, and restaurants share the streets with new, trendy eateries, coffee shops, and bars. Post-industrial buildings have been converted into galleries and artist studios. Some, like the Greenpoint Gallery or Calico Brooklyn, are open to the public. Rooftop lounges, the Transmitter Park, and the East River waterfront offer spectacular views of the Manhattan skyline, and the green spaces are great for morning jogs and weekend picnics as well.

To add to the hipster appeal, many of Greenpoint's residential buildings are renovated warehouses and lofts. You will also find some traditional walkups and newer condos in the area. Hidden gems, from fashion and world cuisine to art and music spaces, are on every corner of this historic and charming neighborhood.

Greenpoint — 8.5/10 Rating (based on 8 neighborhood reviews)
Amazing bars and restaurants, parks, sunlight, and lively atmosphere. My favorite neighborhood in the city. It was so nice to have a different home away from Fordham (though Fordham is great too!)

Our apartment is under the BQE, which is sort of lame, but there are definitely always tradeoffs in a NY apartment. We have tons of space, and easy access to the L train which goes directly into Manhattan. Williamsburg is popular with students, the under 30 set, bargoers and hipsters.

Williamsburg has everything, except for many NYU students. I love the separation of school and life.

Safe area, lots of bars and restaurants. Close to a large park and the G and L (kinda) trains.

Williamsburg has great restaurants and bars, and is very convenient to many places in Manhattan that are off the L. The L has become much more reliable over the past few years, but be aware that service may be suspended for an extended period of time because of Sandy repairs, I starting in late 2017 or 2018. Google it for updated info before renting in Wburg.
