Living in Rosslyn is very convenient. It’s very close to the metro and it’s only one stop away from Foggy Bottom. I can also easily walk into Georgetown DC by simply crossing the bridge. I feel very safe here too and it’s close to grocery stores.

I love living in Rosslyn. I've always felt safe here and there are a ton of areas to walk my dog. It is a bit farther away from where people typically go out (mainly DuPont) but it's very convenient to get to and from school.

While there's not as much to do in Rosslyn as there is in DC, it's quiet, safe, and super convenient. We have tons of transportation options (we don't own a car) and can walk to Georgetown easily.

Rosslyn Heights
This part of Crystal City is fairly good. Tons of restaurants and bars nearby, and right on Rt 1 so everything is accessible. I don't think it is a very walkable location, but if you have a car or at least a bicycle everything is definitely close. 23rd street crystal city restaurants are just under a mile away, so a bit far to walk regularly but still fairly close. On the other side, going towards Alexandria there is a lot of food and shopping options about a mile south.
The neighborhood itself is beautiful. Brand new parks with sculptures and walking paths everywhere. If you walk a bit more towards potomac ave, there is a playground as well as tennis and basketball courts. People are always outside enjoying the parks and recreation. The closest metro line is at the airport (~20 min walk), although there is another metro stop under construction at the moment that would be even closer. Keep reading
The Clark
I love this neighborhood! It has a lot of restaurants in the area and it feels safe to walk at night. Safety was very important to me, and I like that I feel safe walking around here even late at night (around 10-11pm). I personally wouldn't recommend walking on your own after that (I'm a girl - and prefer to err on the cautious side) but I haven't seen or heard of anything so it's probably safe to walk around even later than 11pm, I just prefer not to do it.

Ten at Clarendon
Pentagon City is a great experience that is only about to get better with the new Amazon building and the influx of youth it will bring. It is a ways from DC which makes getting with friends difficult because they don't want to come to Arlington, and getting to DC requires 30 minute notice and planning.

The Aura
Really good neighborhood in NOVA, that is easily accessible to Georgetown, public transit, and everything you would need to live. Mostly corporate and high rises, definitely can range more expensive due to being such a short walk for locals who work in the area at several of the major companies offices there. Certainly a few better neighborhoods you can live in DC/the surrounding area, but has a nice mix of proximity to campus and fun.

Park Georgetown
Rosslyn is great, gets a bad reputation from the snobs that think they're better for living in the city but it's safe, there's lots of good food nearby and everything is close and convenient. If you're more relaxed and not big into always going out or wanting to be surrounded by movement I would definitely recommend living here in Rosslyn than directly in DC. American University isn't very close though, it's normally like a 10 minute Uber or a 45 minute metro.

River Place East
The property is set in a residential area that is pleasant and safe. Custis trail is nearby for running, biking, and walking. It provides easy and quick access to the city and Rosslyn. I love this trail.
MOM's market is on-site. I shop there occasionally but prefer the cheaper option of Giant down the street (a short drive or walk). The metro is a short and safe 5-minute walk away. The building does sit right off Lee Highway, but I have never had any noise or other problems associated with this. I like how quickly I can pull onto the major road instead of navigating around crowded city traffic. I drive to school in under 5 minutes via Lee Highway. Keep reading
Verde Pointe
Rosslyn is convenient for purposes of transportation and conveniences (food, bars, etc.). Additionally, it is between D.C. and the law school, so convenient to just about everything. There are some spots that aren't the safest and you wouldn't want to be walking alone in at night, but overall a great neighborhood.

Central Place
Very clean, lots of restaurants and coffee shops. Some good outdoor spaces. Feels safe overall, but I had some weird experiences. Could potentially be a Ponzi scheme where a man approaches and is flirting with you, asks questions about your life and what you do...Happened to me twice with two separate guys in a similar manner. Maybe I'm just approachable but either way, it's fine overall, just be cautious like you would anywhere else. A few homeless people here and there, but honestly pretty scarce.

LOVE LOVE LOVE my neighborhood. I'm between dupont and u street, so it's not in the middle of it all, which I appreciate. I'm literally 2 blocks from 14th street where all the great restaurants/bars are. I'm also 5-7 mins walking distance to multiple grocery stores (Whole Foods, Trader Joe's, Safeway). It's quiet enough to feel like I'm not in a city, but i'm steps away from being reminded that I am.

The Charleston
Ballston mall is opening up and is a cool space. The apartment is super close to a lot of trivia places, etc. Most of the night life is probably in Clarendon, but that's a quick Lyft or metro ride away (2 stops).
15 minutes on the metro to Capital One - way closer than D.C. Nice if you have friends living in the area. Overall, in either case I would personally recommend choosing proximity to close friends over the neighborhood itself. Keep reading
Meridian at Ballston Commons
My building is a 5-10 minute walk away from both Rosslyn and Clarendon, which are really fun areas for food, shopping, and just wandering around in. I know there are some people that don't super love walking that far, but I've never minded. The Prime is right across the street from an AMC which is delightfully convenient, and has a couple of nice restaurants nearby. It's also adjacent to the Arlington Courthouse, which means there's a large police presence in the area. That's always made me feel safer, but I also know that it can make people feel uncomfortable.

Clarendon has a ton of younger adults and families. It is about a 20 minute metro ride into Downtown DC. It's a great neighborhood to live in if you want access to the city but don't want to be in the city. There are tons of great parks, community activities, restaurants and bars to visit. It's very convenient for work and is always clean and welcoming.

Garfield Park
There's things to do in Courthouse, but it's never too crazy. It's conveniently located to get into the city, and specifically to Georgetown, without paying DC rent and is great to be on a metro line. There's plenty of parking, a great Saturday morning farmer's market, and is just generally a nice place to live.

Colonial Village
We live in Pentagon City in Arlington, and if you are familiar with Arlington, you know the Arlington police and fire are very active. The DEA headquarters, Pentagon, and FBI (alongside a slew of other government agencies) are all within this area, and overall, this makes the city highly monitored. We do feel safe here and there's a large multicultural feel to the city as well with lots to do.

Meridian at Courthouse Commons
Clarendon is the most similar to D.C. as far as an Arlington neighborhood goes. There are tons of bars, restaurants, gyms/yoga studios, grocery stores. Walking around, you will see tons of young professionals/graduate students. It's really clean and quiet. It's on the silver/orange metro line so you can really get anywhere. It's super closer to major highways/the airport, so if you have a car, there is not a single place that's too far away.

The Clarendon
The neighborhood feels safe and is close to an orange and silver line metro stop, several bus stops, and a 20 minute uber ride in to campus during rush hour. There are three grocery stores within about a half mile of the apartment: A Whole Foods, Trader Joes, and a Safeway. However, if you do not have a car, going to the store can be a chore as the neighborhood is very hilly and walking back home with a lot of groceries is tough. There are limited food options in the immediate area that get old fast. A lot of the food options are sit down restaurants, not a lot of fast-casual options. There are a few bars in the immediate area and a lot more bars a short walk into Clarendon. There's an Express Target about three quarter miles away and a normal Target about a $3-4 uber ride away. There's a movie theatre across the street.

Avalon Courthouse Place
GU student notes: There are two shuttles that run through this area, one that runs 1x a hour around Arlington during rush hours, and one that runs every 10min during rush hour and 20 during off hours. There is no easy access to campus on the weekends so be prepared to UBER.
If you have long legs, renting a bike is an option. If you are like me and 5'1'', renting a bike is an option for downhill rides. There is a lot within walking distance in Rosslyn (think 20 min average from my apt): Barnes and Noble, shopping, Whole Foods, Trader Joe's (also on the Arlington loop shuttle from GU), public libraries, CVS, Target, Safeway, lots of restaurants. Also close to dense populations of immigrant communities if you like Chinese, Vietnamese, Korean food. Keep reading

Crystal City is a nice neighborhood. It’s bustling during the week because a lot of people work here, but it’s not very residential so pretty quiet on the weekends. A lot of restaurants within walking distance and several grocery stores as well. The bar scene is almost nonexistent, but otherwise a really nice place to live if you don’t need to be around the DC social scene every night.

Water Park Towers
It's a neighborhood where the majority of the buildings are private houses. That makes the living experience so much more enjoyable because although you're right by the Lee Highway, 7 minutes' walk from the Courthouse Metro, 10 minutes' walk from the Clarendon area, you get a suburban feeling day in and day out. Our apartment complex has our own yard and out-door parking lot, it's a hidden gem right out of DC! Grocery stores (Giant, Wholefoods) and pharmacies (CVS and Walgreen) are also all within a 10-minute walk range! Commuting was extremely convenient. I work part-time at McPherson Square and I can take both a bus right outside my building or choose to walk for 7 minutes to the metro stop. I'm honestly in love with my neighborhood, it's my everyday getaway from all the craziness and stress from my busy life :)

There is a grocery store in Pentagon City and it is open 24 hours. It is a very nice location and feels extremely safe. There are plenty of places to eat around Crystal City (ranging from Chick-fil-a/Chipotle to expensive steakhouses). Also Pentagon City has a extremely large mall, and a Costco's as well.

Crystal Square Apartments
It can be a little noisy if you're too close to Wilson, Glebe or Fairfax roads, especially if you're right above the bus stop like I am, but nothing light background noise can't drown out; I sleep with a fan and I sleep like a baby. The public transport can't be beat, and it seems like a new restaurant opens every day. I'm interested in looking at houses in the area when I can afford to buy!

Cons: Neighborhood shuts down after 5pm. Few restaurants in the neighborhood itself (this is getting better though). Concrete canyon effect because of the skyscrapers. Closest grocery store is an expensive Safeway. Keep reading

The Pentagon City area is safe, quiet (except for big shopping weekends!), and well-lit. Grocery store (Harris Teeter) and tons of other shopping options for all other needs. The metro station is convenient to all area apartment complexes. Great green space/parks across from mall with lots of walking paths. Closest churches however are on 23rd St in Crystal City -- which is not too far of a walk in good weather!

Post Pentagon Row
Ballston is a convenient neighborhood to live in if you work in McLean or somewhere else in Virginia becuase it's only 2 metro stops away from McLean. Ballston doesn't have a very good bar/restaurant scene though so usually you have to go to Clarendon to go out. I think Courthouse is a better neighborhood because it's closer to Clarendon and closer to DC, but Courthouse is more expensive and further from McLean. I prefer living closer to work and paying less which is why I chose Ballston. All of Arlington has great access to the W&OD trails and other running/biking trails which is really nice! I don't hear noise at night in my neighborhood. I feel safe walking home late at night. There are very few homeless people in Arlington. Harris Teeter is a great grocery store and they have lots of free parking and it's not too crowded and they always have a great array of samples.

Thomas Place
Overall, Crystal City is a great place to live, and often overlooked when compared to Pentagon City. This is a pretty suburban area, with a mix of homes and apartment complexes. There are tons of restaurants nearby, and it's enjoyable since they're mostly walking distance. Added perk - Arlington Public Library tucked into the neighborhood between the main Crystal City area and surrounding Pentagon City area.

It is close to almost everything. Metro? Check. Mall? Check. Grocery store? Check. Place to eat and drink? you betcha. I feel safe walking around at night. The only draw back is that there is a fire station close by and you get to hear the wailing of the sirens. You get use to them though.

The location is great and super easy for commuters. Overall all there is not a lot of noise in the neighborhood except for the occasional siren from the 66. Mom's is a close and convenient grocery store and there's many other places in downtown Rosslyn that are also convenient.

The apartment is super close to a Giant, the Custis Trail, Rocklands BBQ, Carpool, Arlington Central Library, and plenty of other delis and restaurants. It's less than a 10 minute walk to either the Ballston metro or Virginia Square, and I've never felt unsafe in this area.

I've been in Ballston for three years now, and I've really enjoyed it. Since a lot of the retail space is being renovated, there are a ton of new restaurants and stores going in. As a young professional, I feel like it's easy to meet people my age who live in the area.

Clarendon is a great place to live in overall. It is a very lively location but is far enough to allow one to get a break from Washington D.C. Clarendon is also the heart of some of the shopping centers in Arlington, along with many restaurants and bars in the area.

This neighborhood has everything you need (grocery stores, pharmacies, gyms, restaurants, medical offices, etc.) but not as much nightlife or shopping as other neighborhoods like Clarendon. Living without a car is easy in this neighborhood.

The Prime at Arlington Courthouse
Rosslyn is a great place to live. The downtown area where River Place is located is fairly small and consists of a lot of corporate buildings, with a lunchtime rush that draws a number of food trucks to the area. A few blocks up the street, the area becomes much more residential which offers an entire change in scenery. Within a 10-minute walk of the River Place, there is a CVS, Safeway, mini Target, District Taco, Panera, and many other restaurants, bars, and shops.
The building complex is also across the street from the Iwo Jima Memorial and Netherlands Carillon which has a beautiful park where you can picnic and enjoy views of the National Mall in the distance. The area is a great place to go on runs and bike rides, as well, as it is close to the Mt. Vernon Trail and Roosevelt Island. You can also cross the Key or the Arlington Memorial Bridge to get to Georgetown or the National Mall, respectively. Note - while Rosslyn is pet friendly, to my knowledge, River Place is not! Or at least, I haven't seen many dogs in the building complex. So this may not be the place for you if you have any pets. Keep reading
River Place North
I love the Courthouse area. Much more affordable than Foggy bottom, more quiet than Rosslyn, some separation between school and home, yet only a quick 15-20 minute bike ride away (or 2 metro stops). And I went to class every day for pre-clinicals so totally doable. The bike ride (most of it on a bike path) includes going over the Potomac River, which is a beautiful way to start or end your day. It was a bit more complicated during clinical because some sites are farther away, but I still biked to most sites (including Children's and the VA) or biked to GW and used the shuttles. The neighborhood has lots of houses (many are quite pricey compared to the apartment buildings) and green spaces, tons of dogs and families. For Halloween the houses get DECKED OUT, I love it. Lovely place to live. Quiet and safe, I feel safe biking/walking around at any hour of day or night.

Extremely safe and friendly neighborhood. I have gotten very involved in my local Catholic church that is right down the street. You can instantly tell the difference when you leave DC that your environment has changed. The people are friendly, you are not scared that you will get robbed, and there are no signs of blight. I would highly recommend the area.

The neighborhood is very family friendly. I can walk, bike, or bus easily to the metro/Pentagon City mall or bus/bike to the law school. Walking distance to fair assortment of restaurants, grocery store, pharmacy, etc. on Columbia Pike. Neighborhood is dotted with parks, tennis courts, short bike path, and other recreation.

The Wellington
The Crystal City and Pentagon City area has a lot of restaurants and shopping in convenient walking distance. The area tends to clear out after 5 on weekdays, but is often busy on weekends, mostly with tourists. I have always felt safe walking alone in the area at whatever time of day/night.
There is not a lot of green space, unless you count Long Bridge "Park", which is a dead-end, cement "bridge" that looks over soccer and baseball fields with some views of D.C. Keep reading
The Point at Pentagon City
Lots of bars and restaurants, from cheap Chinese takeout to fine dining, with plenty of international/ethnic options. There's a great gay bar, several sports pubs, a few trendier places, and a strip club that I've never been into, but is supposed to have great food. Easy access to DC on the blue or yellow line. Shopping in the Crystal Arcade or at Pentagon City Mall (5 minute walk). There's also a Costco.
There are lots of community events during the summer. The Water Park (a small park with fountains, hammocks, a cafe, and a giant chess board) is an excellent place to work, study, read, or have lunch. I have never once felt unsafe or been worried about crime in this neighborhood. It's pretty quiet. Because of the large number of hotels and proximity to the airport, I see lots of tourists. Ballston is improving all the time. The food scene is good, the bar scene is decent, and new shops are popping up all the time. There is good public transportation in the area, including a Metro station. The Ballston Commons Mall provides convenient access to Starbucks, a dry cleaner, hair salons, and many food options. The mall is going to be completely renovated soon which is great for people looking at living in Ballston 2-3 years down the road, but no so great in the immediate future since most of the businesses within the mall will be shutting their doors during the renovation.

There is no neighborhood. You are on a side street across from hotels. The area by the hotels is not a good area, appears to be low income area. Past that is Shirlington Village and dog park, which is nice. Up glebe it gets better as get closer to columbia pike, but not walkable. Down glebe is somewhat better once you get to Giant. But there is no neighborhood, per se, just road to drive on or take the bus (i.e. not walkable), may be bike-able.

We are close to george mason university and marymount college, so there is sometimes a younger crowd in the area as well. Living here almost necessitates having a car.

It's not somewhere you typically would go out at night since nightlife is nonexistent, but Amazon just moved in and there is semblance of that changing. It's great if you are active (many gyms, parks, and Mt. Vernon Trail Access), enjoy restaurants like Chick Fil A (one right outside my building), and want to be close to everything.

Ballston is a great neighborhood. With lots of high rises, it is on the younger side, but it is also a family-friendly environment. One of Ballton's best locations includes the Ballston Quarter, which is a spacious mall with a few shops and a lot of good dining. There are a lot of great areas to eat depending on what you're in the mood for including Chipotle, Sweet Green, Cava, and Shake Shack. On a day-to-day basis you will see a lot of people running or walking their pets or just getting a meal with friends.

Like any city its always important to be mindful of where you are going and your surrounding areas. I would say overall the area is safe but due to the vicinity to DC there is some homelessness and crime that runs into the Pentagon City area. As a woman I am comfortable walking around the area during the day on my own, at night I would prefer to be accompanied by another person. There are a lot of families that live in the building and area as well. The area also seems to be getting more expensive due to the new construction and renovating of older apartments, but I will say it is probably still closer to affordable than expensive.

It's a great area as someone who is looking to live somewhere with easy access to popular sites but without having to live with the noisiness in the "center of it all." It's an easy walk to Clarendon (it's about 0.35 mi walk to Whole Foods, 0.7 mi walk to Trader Joes) and a quick stroll to the metro station (only about 0.2 mi walk). It's a mix of residential apartments and corporate offices, and is quieter but still with a strip of restaurants, coffee, medical offices, and nail/hair salons.

I personally like being in Arlington. Everything is walkable and while it's not DC proper, it's very easy to get into the city via metro or a quick drive in. I've run to Georgetown in 20-30 minutes. There's stuff to do and there's everything you could need: gyms, grocery stores, shopping, restaurants, bars so close by. Ballston is a hub for transport so buses and the metro abound.

The neighborhood is extremely safe and well-lit - you will never feel scared walking home at night or anything like that. You will be walking distance to Safeway and Target. There are also plenty of casual restaurants and coffee shops: Panera, Starbucks, Cosi, Chop't (salads), Sweetgreen (salads), Little Beet (healthy food), District Taco. The Rosslyn Metro and DC Circulator are in this neighborhood and can take you anywhere in DC that you need to go. The Rosslyn GUTS bus is also right near the Metro stop and takes you to the Georgetown campus.

I love it - it is right by Clarendon, which is a central area for bars and restaurants in Arlington. It is about 12 minute walk to the Rosslyn GUTS bus and a short uber into the heart of DC. About 1 minute walk to the Courthouse metro which is only one stop from Rosslyn and 2 stops from DC. Great restaurants and bars nearby, plus a ton of good shopping in the area. Great place to have a family and experience both DC and Arlington.

Much quieter than Clarendon/DC. It is great because you can pay less, but I ended up making up what I saved on ubers, etc because I ended up far from my social life. Living in Ballston is great for work convenience and if you have good friends close by in the area. Otherwise, I would recommend living elsewhere.

Richmond Square Apartments
Pros - metro station can get you to DC in 10 minutes, or to other parts of NoVa quickly too. Quiet, lots of nature / residential feel on the edges, with big office buildings and tall apartment complexes / condos. Ballston is a huge bus hub within Arlington, so if you don't have a car it's great to live here. Metro rail can have issues, but the metrobus system is high quality and pervasive in NoVa/DC. Feels very safe day and night. Ballston is the most western part of Arlington/NoVa that you can live in easily without a car - one metro stop more west (East Falls Church) is too suburban and would be a pain without a car. So Ballston is optimal for people who want to live in Arlington car-free and have cheaper rent than Clarendon/Rosslyn, but still be well connected to DC and transit.
Cons - need to walk to Clarendon (only 10-15 min, safe walk) for nightlife and more variety of restaurants / shops. I don't find myself hanging out in Ballston, but it's a great, peaceful place to call home and live in, great access to grocery stores, short commute to work on Silver line. Plus the rest of Arlington and DC is a quick walk / metro ride away. Keep reading

The location is great. It's a 7 minute walk to the blue line metro, and the total commute to campus is 25 minutes (when the blue line is running properly). An uber takes about 12 minutes and costs an average of $5 per ride (with uber pool). Pentagon City has just about everything you could need. There is a Whole Foods across the street, and the Fashion Center mall is right next to the metro station. There are restaurants, coffee shops, and convenience stores, and a very well maintained public park.

Everything is so clean and classy and safe. It is really the perfect community filled with young professionals. I personally think it is a better place for networking than the city.

Rosslyn is so close to DC, while still having a quieter vibe and cheaper rent than the district proper. There are plenty of restaurants & grocery stores. Only thing that's missing in the area is a proper neighborhood bar. Sometimes, the bar options can feel a little too similar to suburban chains. The neighborhood has a very active community as well, especially in the summer. There are outdoor movies, jazz festivals, arts & crafts festivals, etc.

Rosslyn Heights
In the past few years, Columbia Pike has been "revitalized" with the construction of new apartment buildings and stores. Unfortunately, we only saw the rebuilding of the nearby Arlington Mill Community Center and apartments, but no new stores. The selection at immediate walking distance isn't good -- just a CVS and then fast food or Salvadoran restaurants. Park Glen Condominium
This area seems to target visitors and government personnel. As such, I wish it had more of a community or culture. Crystal City (which is darn close to where we live) has a bit more of that and is within walking distance. Pentagon City does have a great shopping scene, including at least 2 grocery stores, and some pretty good restaurant options. While busy and noisy at times because of these amenities, government buildings, and the Reagan airport, our apartment complex buffers the outside pretty well. The nearby metro options and proximity to a ton of bike lanes and trails make this area very convenient to live in.

The neighborhood around the Windsor apartments in Shirlington make living there worth it. Not only are there bars and restaurants for every taste, but there's a 24 hour Harris Teeter just walking distance away. I don't know about the school system, but it's conveniently located to 395 to get in and out of DC easily and quickly. Five minutes away from Pentagon City mall and metro.

The Citizen at Shirlington Village
The neighborhood is great for all the shops and restaurants. I never need to leave it for the things that I need regularly. My only complaint is the lack of any character. All the shops are chains, no local restaurants. And any sort of free parking is especially hard to come by on nights and weekends. However, since I spend most of my time in DC (work and social), it's an easy place to live for commuting purposes.

The Saturday farmer's market is wonderful, and lots of new restaurants and businesses have moved in over the last year. If you're looking for something a little quieter than Clarendon with the same access to metro and restaurants Courthouse is a great choice.

Courthouse (located right between Rosslyn and Clarendon), is a very convenient area, with lots of shopping, grocery stores, convenience stores, and restaurants. The metro station is in the center of the neighborhood and leads right to downtown DC, and the area feels very safe, including at night.
