Great for dog owners

I have lived at 1401 Joyce for over 2 years now and have enjoyed my experience so far. The maintenance, front desk, and leasing staff are all very responsive and nice. There is a park across the street, which is great if you have pets that you walk, and a lot of residents have dogs or cats so everyone understands if there is a little barking here and then. The rent is pretty pricey when living alone but with a roommate or two it is much more budget-friendly.

Great placement to Metro

5 minutes away from Pentagon, great views of the D.C. monuments. Comfortable, modern apartments. Good maintenance but unresponsive leasing office.

Great for Dog Owners

I’ve really enjoyed living here so far, especially considering I have a dog. There is a park right across the street with a public dog park, and metro access through the Pentagon City Mall—though I often walk outside via a cut-through that makes it even faster. Everyone on the staff has been extremely friendly and helpful, and the 24 hour concierge is convenient and makes me feel safe when coming in later at night. I think more people should consider living in Pentagon City as it’s usually cheaper than DC and is only 4 metro stops away from campus.

Great neighborhood. Great clean building. Though a bit expensive, that is why I am moving when my lease ends. But highly suggested if you are willing to pay

Excellent building

I am very happy with the building- have a newly renovated one bedroom with plenty of closet space, granite countertops, new floors, and new appliances. It's a short walk to the Pentagon City Metro (maybe five minutes) and uber/lyft is also always nearby. The location has everything needed in walking distance- Costco, pharmacy, supermarkets, mall, etc. It's a suburban location but easy to get to central DC in about 20 minutes. The amenities are also great and the management is responsive to requests. They take good care of the building and we recently had all of the hallways renovated.

Best DC Living Experience!

I have lived in the DC area for five years and rented within three different apartment buildings under various management groups. 1401 Joyce has been, by far, the best living experience. I've lived there for two years and never had an issue. The front desk, maintenance, and management teams are helpful and friendly. The residents are also friendly. Many have pets, kids, or travel frequently for work. There's adequate parking, controlled entry, a gym, pool, and game/TV room with an amazing view of the city (especially on July 4th!). The proximity to the metro, Pentagon City mall, DC, and Alexandria make it a great location. I've never felt removed from the DC scene. There's a grocery store, dry cleaner, convenience store, hair and nail salon, and other restaurants/shops right next door. There are also baseball and soccer fields across the street. Overall, it's a lively, young neighborhood and my living experience at 1401 has been exceptional.

Getting around Pentagon City

Pentagon City Reviews

66 reviews
Pentagon City is nice and fairly quiet, which is good for studying. There are some students around but it's mostly families and working individuals. There's not a ton to do, but there are some nice places to walk, and there is a good array of restaurants. The apartment is close to a Harris Teeter and a Whole Foods and Costco.
Safe. Feels like a retirement community. Drivers stop to let you cross the street to the apartment.

For the metro, the ride itself is about 20 min. I just budget in extra time for walking and not wanting to arrive just on time. It shouldn't take 45 minutes to get to school unless they're doing maintenance. Then, add 10 minutes.
The Crystal City and Pentagon City area has a lot of restaurants and shopping in convenient walking distance. The area tends to clear out after 5 on weekdays, but is often busy on weekends, mostly with tourists. I have always felt safe walking alone in the area at whatever time of day/night.
There is not a lot of green space, unless you count Long Bridge "Park", which is a dead-end, cement "bridge" that looks over soccer and baseball fields with some views of D.C.
The location is great. It's a 7 minute walk to the blue line metro, and the total commute to campus is 25 minutes (when the blue line is running properly). An uber takes about 12 minutes and costs an average of $5 per ride (with uber pool). Pentagon City has just about everything you could need. There is a Whole Foods across the street, and the Fashion Center mall is right next to the metro station. There are restaurants, coffee shops, and convenience stores, and a very well maintained public park.
General vibe is 30-somethings wanting to settle down, lots of dogs. Not a huge social scene (which I'm A-OK with).

Pros:
-Very metro-accessible (blue/yellow, so can get into the city in multiple directions if there are delays)
-Walkable - easy to get to grocery store, Pentagon City mall, library, restaurants, etc. within minutes
-Quiet and safe, and generally well-lit in the evenings

Cons:
-I'd like to see a few more restaurant options. There are good casual dining options, like Naked Pizza, California Pizza Kitchen, and the mall food court, but besides Bonefish Grill there's not much a step up from that.
-I don't feel much sense of community, and don't know my neighbors. Not as diverse-seeming as other parts of DC.
The Pentagon City area is safe, quiet (except for big shopping weekends!), and well-lit. Grocery store (Harris Teeter) and tons of other shopping options for all other needs. The metro station is convenient to all area apartment complexes. Great green space/parks across from mall with lots of walking paths. Closest churches however are on 23rd St in Crystal City -- which is not too far of a walk in good weather!
There are dining and shopping options galore. A massive three story shopping mall directly across the street. There are multiple parks in the area and grocery shopping options are within a 15 minute walk. There is a public library nearby and many bus routes.
I like the neighborhood, lots of food options, close to a movie theater, and right next to a mall. Only downside is many of my friends live in D.C. and you can feel apart from the city often.
