Love it!

Love my apartment! While it may be pricy, I live with my partner and we split the rent, which makes it much more reasonable. There are really great amenities: a gym, pool, outdoor space, grills, everything that you need. The management is very responsive to maintenance requests as well, and they regularly do events where they cook food for residents. I really enjoy it!

AVA Ballston Square is a nice place with a degree of separation from the law school.

We moved here after living at AVA Ballston (same management company). We are on the seventh floor and each have our own bathroom. I never hear our neighbors and the noise from traffic and construction is at a minimum. We have plenty of floorspace and access to excellent amenities, including a nice gym and pool. We are a three-minute walk from the Ballston Metro station and a few minutes away from Target and a variety of other restaurants.

Great apartment

It is a 30 minute commute by metro, but what you lose in location you gain in the size of then unit and all of the amenities.

Clean, Eventful Area Close to Metro

It is pricey here. I will not lie about that, but it is in close proximity in walking (5 to 10 minutes walk) to the metro, small stores for shopping, a walking trail, a theatre, and several grocery stores. The neighborhood is lively nut not too noisy and if you drive a car, you are not to far from the interstate.

Great Building with Wonderful Amenities - Too Expensive and Bad Management

Wonderful amenities in a newly renovated room, with the building being renovated as well. Sadly, it costs quite a bit compared to other nearby buildings, and does not include amenities within rent (if it did, the pricing would at least make sense). The management truly sucks and I avoid dealing with them at all costs.

Amazing Amenities, Great Neighborhood

We love the amenities here, it's great for dog owners and they have a nice gym, courtyard, study rooms, free printing, pool, etc. A little far from the school however this is right next to the Ballston Metro, takes about 15 minutes to get to the Foggy Bottom stop.

AVA Ballston Square Review

It's a good starter apartment and the building itself is nice. They've invested a lot in making the courtyard/pool area and gym nice. It's also convenient having the metro stop and so many restaurants right outside the building. The only bummer is that the unit can feel really small and there isn't a lot of space in the bedrooms. This gets to be more of an issue because of COVID making us hold up inside. Price wise it's fairly in line with what's being offered in the area if anything it's a bit cheaper. When you're paying rent it seems like you're paying for access to the location more so than for the unit.

About Ballston

Living in the suburbs and still finding a vibrant city a few blocks away is what Ballston is all about. Reach the city with great ease, and find some great restaurants such as the Tutto Bene and the Caribbean Breeze, or maybe the Taste of Arlington Annual Street Fair. If that is not appealing enough...

Getting around Ballston

Ballston Reviews

49 reviews
I enjoy my neighbors and the common crowd around this area is young professionals it seems. We are close to george mason university and marymount college, so there is sometimes a younger crowd in the area as well. We do have some houses around the area that I have seen mainly have newly established families (i.e. little kids or new to the area) and I feel safe walking around my area at night.
I personally like being in Arlington. Everything is walkable and while it's not DC proper, it's very easy to get into the city via metro or a quick drive in. I've run to Georgetown in 20-30 minutes. There's stuff to do and there's everything you could need: gyms, grocery stores, shopping, restaurants, bars so close by. Ballston is a hub for transport so buses and the metro abound.
It can be a little noisy if you're too close to Wilson, Glebe or Fairfax roads, especially if you're right above the bus stop like I am, but nothing light background noise can't drown out; I sleep with a fan and I sleep like a baby. The public transport can't be beat, and it seems like a new restaurant opens every day. I'm interested in looking at houses in the area when I can afford to buy!
Ballston is by far one of the best areas of Arlington to live in. It has tons of access to bars, food, shopping, and a social scene, without being too loud of an area.
We are right across from Ballston Quarter which has a Union Market type of food court. The area is developing so quickly, very trendy and everything is within walking distance. Even though it's very walkable it does not feel as congested as DC.
I definitely feel that it's up and coming-- so much construction and many new restaurants and shops popping up! IT's very walkable. It's also pretty safe and it's close to highways, the Potomac, to DC, etc so the location is pretty great.
I love living in Ballston. I don’t have a car and never feel like I need one. Richmond Square is a block from the metro to take me into DC, and there are plenty of places to eat and things to do right here in Ballston.
Great spot for young people. There are tons of amazing restaurants and bars nearby that you can walk to. Also only a short metro ride to DC.
