Nice building

The building is nice and safe. Location is good for the law school and is close to downtown. Management is great and the building is very well run. There is a gym and a pool. I like living here.

Nice Condo Building

10 management rating Reviewed by on

1111 S Wabash is a nice condo building that is about 75% owner-occupied. The building is in a good location - about a 15-minute drive to the law school - and has round-the-clock doormen. The building is quite calm and quiet. It is a good place to live.

My roommate and I love the spacious floor plan, the in-unit washer and dryer, and that we get 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms for $1350/month each. It is about a 10 minute walk away from campus which is very doable and it is nice to live a couple minutes from Trader Joe's!

A bit old, and annoying management fees, but otherwise great!

5 management rating Reviewed by on

The condo association management can be frustrating sometimes, especially because they have very strict rules about paying fees for things like moving in ("reserving the freight elevator" for $200, which will also have to be paid again upon move out), requesting new key fobs or garage openers, and maintenance requests. The building is also very old, so we have lots of dust, etc. and the appliances are outdated. But every unit has its own parking space, basement storage locker, and there is a bike storage room and a spacious gym. For University students, the location is great--right outside a 172 bus stop and two blocks from Ratner gym. The pricing is very reasonable for the amount of space we have, and the kitchen is large (lots of counter tops and space to move around). The balcony is also a big plus--we're able to have a portable grill to use during the warmer months and can spend time outside in the fresh air. Because of the balcony, we get lots of natural light. Pet friendly, with reasonable pet fees ($25/year).

Great spot for our young family

Unit: 2-bed plus den that acts as office/3rd bedroom (w/pullout bed), 1450ish sqft. In-unit laundry, lots of storage space, gas appliances, open kitchen/dining/living room layout. A lot of windows with natural light in all bedrooms + kitchen/dining/living room. Park/lake view is unit dependent, we have a sliver but it's still nice.
Groceries: Same block as Trader Joe's, across the street from Jewel-Osco, Target 7 minute walk away, Whole Foods 10 minute walk.
Restaurants: lot of local spots and chains in the area. Not west loop quality, but also not west look prices.
Transit: Across the street from Roosevelt Station (Green, Orange, Red lines), two blocks from the Metra Museum Campus stop (to and from Booth). To MPP/MILA/73E Lake: 25 minute walk, buses run up and down Michigan all day (10-15 minutes), trains run every 7-15 minutes (15 minutes).
Amenities: Building has 24-hour attendant, gym, pool, on-site manager, indoor parking, bike storage room ($20 for the year), and storage lockers (if included with unit).

Best apartment

9 management rating Reviewed by on

Wanted to buy a property and not rent. Perfect location for access to downtown chicago and easy commute to school. I take the 12 bus down roosevelt and have a 25 minute commute every day. Apartment building is great, well maintained. Gym is small but I work out mostly at UIC's gym so it does the job on days I'm at home. Occasionally had some safety issues in the neighborhood but nothing personally has happened to me. Generally very safe.

Good for the cost

Location can't be beat on the corner of State and Erie. Everything is within walking distance. The staff are nice for the most part - a couple of the doormen aren't the friendliest but they're not mean, I guess. Top floor with a great view and deck area. Okay gym but equipment is old.

Vetro has a lot of young families in the building which makes for a nice quiet living environment. The door staff are very nice and go out of their way to know the residents. Additional facilities include a small gym, sauna, common space and terrace.

Lovely Property, but Cheap Management

8 management rating Reviewed by on

The building is great. The amenities are wonderful; however, they come at a cost. The costs won't break the bank but they are frustrating at times (i.e. paying $5 for each pool visitior). One other note to younger apartment searchers, the residents are mostly on the older side.

Centrally Located Building

Great location, steps from Trader Joe's, Whole Foods, and Jewel. Updated gym on site and private parking available. Also close to the red line. Lacks a pool, which many other buildings nearby have, but it has a great view from the rooftop and several communal grills available for residents.

Spacious, in-unit laundry, hardwood floors, and easy commute to school

The Rennaisance Place at Hyde Park is a fantastic place to live! The condo building itself is very quiet - it is home to many retirees and professionals - so its always easy to study. I am right on the stop for the 172 bus and UChicago shuttles, so my commute to school is very quick. Barely 2 blocks from Ratner, so easy access to the gym as well. The building has a gym in the basement as well, if you aren't picky.

Nice place, with it's own skyline view.

Living inside the loop you wouldn't expect to get a nice skyline view, however living right across the street from the motorola building provides a beautiful view of the building models created by the architects on floor 10.
