Nice building

The building is nice and safe. Location is good for the law school and is close to downtown. Management is great and the building is very well run. There is a gym and a pool. I like living here.

Nice Condo Building

1111 S Wabash is a nice condo building that is about 75% owner-occupied. The building is in a good location - about a 15-minute drive to the law school - and has round-the-clock doormen. The building is quite calm and quiet. It is a good place to live.

Great spot for our young family

Unit: 2-bed plus den that acts as office/3rd bedroom (w/pullout bed), 1450ish sqft. In-unit laundry, lots of storage space, gas appliances, open kitchen/dining/living room layout. A lot of windows with natural light in all bedrooms + kitchen/dining/living room. Park/lake view is unit dependent, we have a sliver but it's still nice.
Groceries: Same block as Trader Joe's, across the street from Jewel-Osco, Target 7 minute walk away, Whole Foods 10 minute walk.
Restaurants: lot of local spots and chains in the area. Not west loop quality, but also not west look prices.
Transit: Across the street from Roosevelt Station (Green, Orange, Red lines), two blocks from the Metra Museum Campus stop (to and from Booth). To MPP/MILA/73E Lake: 25 minute walk, buses run up and down Michigan all day (10-15 minutes), trains run every 7-15 minutes (15 minutes).
Amenities: Building has 24-hour attendant, gym, pool, on-site manager, indoor parking, bike storage room ($20 for the year), and storage lockers (if included with unit).

Best apartment

Wanted to buy a property and not rent. Perfect location for access to downtown chicago and easy commute to school. I take the 12 bus down roosevelt and have a 25 minute commute every day. Apartment building is great, well maintained. Gym is small but I work out mostly at UIC's gym so it does the job on days I'm at home. Occasionally had some safety issues in the neighborhood but nothing personally has happened to me. Generally very safe.

As a single woman it was very important for me to live in an area that was safe given that the medical school schedule will require me to come home at night. Also it gives me great peace of mind to live in a building with doormen 24/7 in case anything were to happen. However, this has come at at a great cost.
Quite a number of nice bars and restaurants within walking distance. Groceries also (Target, Trader Joe's, and Whole Foods about 15 minutes by foot; small local shop about 3 mins). Bus stop to go to the university about 10 mins away (number 2, Hyde Park Express).
I really like South Loop. It is definitely an older crowd (young 30s and up) which suited me better - it has families and schools but still feels close to downtown which I really enjoy. Lots going on close by and lots of grocery stores too.
South Loop is quieter than the Loop, but you will get more space. Ideal for parents, people with partners that work remotely, or people looking for more space for their money. Outside of Bears games, has far fewer tourists to deal with than the Loop.
Across Michigan Ave from Grant Park. 10-minute walk from the Shedd Aquarium, Field Museum, Adler Planetarium, and Soldier Field.
Roosevelt station is very close by and incredibly convenient if you don't mind taking the train or buses, but it is a transit hub, so expect increased numbers and variety of people.
Not far from the rest of the Loop, and you can still easily make your way north for study groups and social events.
I literally love living in the south loop. I can walk practically anywhere
less of a tourist trap than streeterville, still downtown atmosphere. There's a cozy little neighborhood full of townhouses that's nice for a walk.
Pros: Central to all major forms of transport, proximity to downtown, museums, and activities

Cons: Proximity to all major inbound train tracks increases the noise level. Proximity to Roosevelt Road which is high-traffic, treeless, and not bike-friendly.
It's a fine location. Not great, not horrible. I like a lot of other neighborhoods better but this is closer to school.
