Lots of pests. Loitering common outside apartment. Most importantly, lots of roaches. Have I mentioned roaches? Also fees. Expect actual rent to be ~$300/mo more than advertised between fees and utils. Location i s fair, but just go Lofts or something.
Lofts at Lakeview Review
its fine, big apartments and walkable from campus
mixed bag
this review is tainted by the fact that management got our apartment unit wrong the day of move in, but overall, in hindsight, i would've chosen a different apartment complex to live in. it's close and convenient to the graduate schools, but i'm not sure if it's worth the older
Trinity Commons Review
Trinity Commons is an average apartment complex. The location of the property is great! It's so close to the hospital/medical school, so it's easy to go to class/clinical rotations which I really appreciate it. Other than that, if it weren't so close, I would NOT chose to live at Trinity. The gym is okay, but equipment is usually broken or it is just dirty. The pool and hot tub are nice, but sometimes it is hard to tell if they are well-maintained. The two apartments I lived in at Trinity were OVERUN with roaches. In the beginning, I'd see a roach like every single day (not just little ones, but big ones as well). When I first moved in, they did not clean the apartment well at ALL. There was hair and nails all over the place. The management is nice and they do respond in a timely manner to maintenance requests, but it doesn't make the apartment seem "luxury" when there are always roaches there.
Good apt but not worth the price
I like my studio and space but the management is rude and the upkeep of the building is poort

Best apartment around duke west campus
Fuqua master student, I've been living here for 2 years and I'm now still living at the Trinity Commons.
Honestly I can't find a better apartment here than Trinity, the management team is really friendly and nice, always reponsive to my requests. I used amanities like hot tub, huge gym a lot.
Actually there is no huge difference between west campus's apartments floor plan, it's all about the safety, location, amenities and management team. The price is higher but you will get what you paid for.
As an international student from China, it's challenging for me to study in the U.S., but Trinity provides me a safe, convenient place to study and figure my life out. The management team truly respects you as a person, and they even celebrated festivals with all the residents here. Overall, it is a great living experience for me, if you are a prospective duke students, I would highly recommend you to live here.
Not worth it
Price is at a luxury apartment's level but the facilities are just not worth it. Severe, severe, severe roach and ants problem (even after calling pest control service several times) - heard it's the worst among the buildings on Erwin Road. Also, the rent raise is just not reasonable, e.g. asking each tenant to pay for parking fees and cable fees even if we don't own a car/use cable service. The front door is locked after 6 pm and you have to detour to use the side doors. Some of the leasing office personnel are very rude. You can tell that the building is old by the corridor and the furniture. Some of the windows cannot be opened, and if I open the patio door, I'm just letting in more roaches and ants.
The good part is the room IS spacious. Fun decoration style and fancy lobby. The building has a mini-theatre (though the facilities are always "down" when asking if we can use it). Maintainence team responds quickly. Also, the building is within walking distance to the West Campus and close to the bus stops. Just not worth the price we're paying.
Nice space, but far too expensive.
I've lived here all three years of law school. The apartments are nice, as is the building (mostly). The location is, I think, unbeatable. (Caveat: I don't own a car, so I needed to live within walking distance of the law school.)
In late-2023, the building came under new management. They're plenty responsive and friendly, but they hiked the price on EVERYTHING. My rent went up substantially, and they started slapping me with fees for parking (despite the fact that I don't own a car), amenities (which I don't use), and cable (even though I don't own a television). My sense is that rent in the area is rising generally, but the increase was staggering. Only the incovenience of moving and a few last-minute concessions on their part kept me from jumping ship.
If money's not an issue, it's a solid spot to live. But if you're balling on a budget, it'll wipe you out. I'm graduating in the red.
It's pretty meh
The location of the building is great if you're a student because it's super walkable to Duke's campus, but that's really the only thing that stands out to me about Trinity Commons. The leasing team is only kind of responsive, maintenance sometimes ghosts you, and there are TONS of hidden fees (parking, internet, trash service, water, etc.) because nothing is included in your rent. Also, the doors to the parking garage are almost always broken, meaning they're often cracked. This means anyone can get into the building with or without a key, which is super concerning, especially as a woman. I've had many, many frustrations with living at Trinity Commons and have thought about moving complexes basically since I moved in.
Poor Management
The Management is just not responsive and don’t take good care of the property
10/10 Place
Positives:
- Trinity Commons Apartments offer fantastic amenities and a great location with convenient access to popular food spots like Heavenly Buffalo, CVS, Dunkin' and Chipotle, all within walking distance.
- The 18-minute walk to campus is manageable, making it convenient for those without cars.
- a 5 minute drive to Ninth street (you just take Erwin down the road and you're there)
- The apartments themselves have lots of natural light, creating a bright and welcoming atmosphere.
- The resident mix leans toward law and med students, which brings a balanced vibe for those looking for a quieter environment than typical Fuqua housing.
- the walls are thick!
- you can't hear the train
Apartment Layout:
The 1.5 bed, 1 bath layout is functional, with enough space for solo living or a bit of extra storage.
There's also 1 b 1 bath options that are about 1600!
Negatives:
The only downsides are the very tall cabinets, which might require a step ladder for easier access, and a relatively small clothes closet space.

Great spacious floor plans and peaceful neighbourhood
Lofts 2B2B Review
Closest off-campus apartment to Fuqua, about 15 min walk
Close to campus but overpriced
Definitely overpriced. The buildings are old and poorly maintained, except for the main lobby and some amenities. I haven't seen as many bugs in my entire life as I've seen here in two months (I've lived in many cities across three continents). Their response is that we're in NC. Well, I've lived in Durham before in a more extensive apartment complex with more green spaces, and they managed to control it. While at The Lofts, there doesn't seem to be a willingness to do something about it so it's infested. The apartments' HVAC is shared, so whatever happens at your neighbor's apartment gets into yours (cigarettes, weed, etc.), and there isn't much they can do about it. Thus, your well-being depends on your neighbor. Main doors can be blocked open for days, but thankfully the neighborhood is rather safe. It's also close to campus.
