The Lofts - Very Modern and Nice Building

Proximity to Fuqua is great. About 12mins walk. Facility is also very modern. Quiet atmosphere in the building. And very responsive support staff attending to timely to every maintenance request.

Nice space, management is not very responsive

So far my experience at the Lofts has been nice and safe. I do believe the management is a bit slow to respond to requests and can sometimes be a bit unhelpful. They are pretty responsive to urgent issues, though.

Lofts at Lakeview

Overall a good experience and stay.

Generally a clean environment but I had a small garden bug infestation in my apartment near the terrace sliding door due to the summer weather.

Maintenance personnel respond relatively quick and all requests are done through an app. My oven wasn’t working and they came and replaced it with a new one within 3 days.

Amenities are great, outdoor pool, gym, good lounge.

Very expensive relative to other apartments as I am paying $100 per month on top of rent for internet and energy utilities.

Lofts Review

I love living at Lofts. It's super close to the med school and lots of food options, my apartment is great, and I use the gym consistently. Also, lots of other med students live in Lofts/Flats/Trinity, so it's nice to be so close to a lot of people. The one downside (besides being expensive) is that maintenance doesn't respond to work requests very quickly, but I think that happens at basically every apartment complex, and all of my requests have been resolved within ~10 days.

Pretty good!

Decent value for the size of our apartment, which is enormous (1,528 sq. ft). Lots of natural light and a big, spacious common area with a nice little kitchen. More closet space than you know what to do with. Quick response to maintenance requests, including any pest issues that come up. Very close to Duke's medical campus (~16 min walk to medical school or hospital), 3 min drive to closest supermarket, and multiple casual restaurants within a 5 min walk. Gym is on the small side but not usually crowded and easy to use. Not as fancy as Trinity Commons but better value in my opinion - the only reason I'd pick Trinity over Lofts is improved security, security system at Lofts feels a little older and many interior doors (other than personal door to your apartment) do not require a key.

Good but maybe look elsewhere

I'm generally happy with the Lofts. The apartment is spacious and gets a lot of sun; the building is a fairly short walk from campus, which is great since I don't own a car; and there are plenty of good dining options nearby. But I've learned that you can enjoy the same amenities (and then some) in other parts of the city for a fraction of the rent. Unless distance from campus is a key concern of yours, I recommend saving your money.

Great but too expensive

I’ve lived here for 3 months and haven’t had any issues. The area is very safe and there is a food court right across the street. I’m an MS1 so I love that the med school is only about a 15-20 minute walk depending on how fast you walk. The main lobby has a lounge where you can hang out with friends, a study area with a coffee/tea bar, and a decent gym.

The only reason I wouldn’t give the lofts a 9 or 10 rating is because of the pricing. I’m paying over $1800 a month for a 1 bedroom, and no utilities are included (that’s an extra $160-$180 a month).

If you don’t mind the price, it is a great place to live!

Review

Lofts is great if you want to be close to the hospital. It is a little cheaper than the other apartments near the hospital for more space. The apartments are slightly less nice than other apartments (like trinity) but you get more out of your money. The gym is very nice and there is always parking. There is no noise from next door neighbors but you can hear the footsteps of upstairs neighbors.

Safe

Living here is safe, close to law school. However, try renting an apartment on the upper level as bugs come in very easily.

Can be a little sketchy sometimes but I sacrifice that for being close to the hospital. Usually try to avoid walking alone at night but have done it plenty of times after staying late in the hospital or having to get there at 4 AM and have never had any issues. A nice selection of food/drink options just down the street!
Very convenient to the hospital and campus (walking distance) and some chain restaurants with a few local spots, but overall not a very interesting neighborhood. Very bike-able to 9th st area, less so to downtown but still only about a 20-min bike ride
Very close to campus, extremely convenient to the hospital. Many students live in the complexes nearby. Some food options, but no real "neighborhood." The main attraction is that it's as close to living on campus as you can get off campus.
Great that the neighborhood is so close to the hospital which is great for me as a student. The apartment complex is close to a bus stop / a pretty loud street which sometimes has some noise but overall no major issues.
Mostly apartments. Conveniently located to Duke and hospitals, plenty of amenities on Hillsborough Road, though if you want good food you may need to drive a bit.
Not the safest place, but the apartment complex has a garage so you don't need to walk outside at night. So close to the medical school/convenient.
safe neighborhood. We haven't had much crime and Trinity Properties has an annual safety meeting to give helpful tips on safety for the area.
Close to campus, but few grocery store and dining options in the immediate area. Biggest perk is proximity and that's really it.
