Old and doesn't feel safe
The elevators in the building are unreliable, which is scary when you live on a very high floor. They have been better recently, but there were a few months where they were constantly going out of service or people were getting stuck. When they weren't all working, you would have to wait for a long time just to get a full elevator. It could add 10 minutes to my commute. The thought of getting stuck is really scary. They have been better in recent months, but my experience the first few months have made me lose all trust, and it makes me nervous to live on such a high floor where I can't reasonably use the stairs.
There was one incident where there was a fire in the dumpster, and smoke was rising up the trash chute and filling all the floors of the building. The building management did not set off any kind of alarm or send any alert to residents. There was visible smoke in my hallway, and there is no way I would have known if I had been sleeping and hadn't smelled it. I don't trust them to alert me to get out if needed, which is also very scary.
Some apartments also flood when it rains. Water comes in around the windows, and it seeps up through people's floorboards and down through people's ceilings. The maintenace is so poor that apartments that are very far off the ground can end up with sitting water or collapsing parts of ceilings in very bad storms.
The location is convenient, and it is pet-friendly. The gym is also nice. But if it weren't for the location and it being dog-friendly, I would move.
Most residents are moving out
Overall, the experience at Axis has not been up to par. Most student residents are planning to look for apartments elsewhere next year and this decision is largely attributed to poor management that fails to address the building's numerous issues. Instead, it chooses to cover up any shortcomings and deletes its own Google reviews.
FSM student at Axis
building is clean, door man/front office holds packages for pick up 24/7, swimming pool and sundeck, some units have view on the lake
Good location, bad property management
It is very conveniently located and I can walk to the hospital in <5 minutes. The rooftop has some of the best views in the city but is only open ~6 months. The elevators frequently break down. Rooftop grills are poorly maintained. Gym is nice and there are shared washer/dryers in the fitness center.
Great. Worth the issues for me.
Views are great in my apartment. Super close to med school. Rooftop is sweet. Had some minor flooding. Elevators are slow sometimes.
Axis review
Excellent view, close proximity to hospital campus. Quite cold in the winter.
Good apartment with no major issues
Biggest issues are the elevators being occasionally down. Haven't had any major problems, maintenance is pretty responsive to any problems. Easy package pickup, safe building.
Very spacious and building well-managed
My roommate and I have enjoyed living in the Chatelaine. The apartment is very spacious and we appreciate that there's only 4 units per floor. The management is responsive to any issues, and we haven't really had any. While definitely not cheap, the rent is slightly more affordable than other apartments of this size in Streeterville. It is very close to school.
Elevators often broken
Overall, my experience has been satisfactory. The worst thing is that every few weeks 1-2 out of the 4 elevators will break, creating very long wait times. It's not exactly feasible to take the stairs to/from the 49th floor. Some of my friends have also had issues with flooding that I hear management isn't very responsive about.
Great apartment
Excellent apartment, very spacious, great staff, close to campus, cheap price. Amenities are ok- cute garden rooftop but minimal gym. It is close to the underpass for lakefront running and walkable to FFC so this doesn't bother me
Axis Apartments and Lofts Review
Good value and great location, but management is not transparent
ok if you’re willing to settle
axis is fine if you want a place that’s close to school. otherwise, it is not well maintained (leaking floors/ceilings, broken elevators, broken laundry room, broken appliances). it is expensive for what you’re getting, but again, the location is convenient if you’re going to be at / near the hospital often. bad response time for requests, rude staff (some, while others are great!), super expensive, pretty view. also horrible temperature control / insulation- expect to pay more than $200 a month in winter just for heat if you want to be moderately comfortable.
Bad elevators
It is very convenient. Great 60th floor rooftop that’s open from ~May to ~October. Gym is great with a sauna and steam room. Indoor pool is small and rarely used. Elevators consistently are broken.
Affordable and Good location. Bad management
For me and my partner it was an ideal location. I could take the blue line to rush easily and she could take the red line to her office( pre Covid). It was also very close to multiple large parks and the lake so easy to have a dog and have enjoyable walks. The building itself is Perfectly fine but the management company does not maintain the amenities that well.

I love living at 640, it's close to everything you need and to the water/bike path. I like the quiet neighborhood feel, while still being near the city and main roads. No complaints!
