Review

I love living at 640, it's close to everything you need and to the water/bike path. I like the quiet neighborhood feel, while still being near the city and main roads. No complaints!

Great Apartment!

I moved to Chicago from Evanston and found a great apartment at 640 Sheridan. Everything in my apartment is redone and I have hardwood floors, granite counters, and new cabinets. Maintenance is great and responds very quickly. In addition, some of the maintenance people live in the building. Laundry is in the building which is very nice. It's great here :)

Cool place

Apartment was pretty cool to live in. We only had a few problems when we initially lived there, but the landlord was quick to make any fixes. I would live here again if I had the chance. The units are pretty updated and the apartment was fairly quiet.

Overall, a pretty good first apartment!

I found my apartment through Groupfox leasing agent Ann Cort, who had helped friends of mine. She couldn't be nicer - showed me everything she had in and around my budget before I finally applied for the one I wanted. It's a very spacious studio, hardwood floors, recently renovated bathroom, and a lobby area currently being revamped. It's also super-close to multiple buses and the Red Line, as well as walkable to Wrigleyville and Boystown bars. In the year I've lived here, management is usually quick to respond regarding maintenance issues, questions I have, and any building notices. I've definitely had some maintenance problems here and there - an A/C issue that required a new unit, a bathroom leak, power outages, etc. Nothing too uncommon, and all fixed fairly quickly. I did learn fast that maintenance had a habit of leaving my door unlocked when they came to do a repair and I wasn't home, so I now make sure someone is home during all repairs. Additionally, things tend to happen without notice - our elevator was down for over a week last fall and four days this spring to order new parts, and we weren't informed until it was already down. We've also had two multiple-day power outages because of poor communication between the management and ComEd, though the building manager did bring pizza, soda, and flashlights to the building for us as a kind gesture. I like my apartment, I have minimal issue with management, and for my first solo apartment, I'm very happy. Would recommend!

Would not rent from Group Fox

I have lived here since December and have had many problems with the apartment and the management. First, I have had many problems with the kitchen sink clogging and even flooding my kitchen one weekend while I was out of town .The management continued to tell me it was someone putting stuff down the drain but now they admitted it was their issue and fixed it. They would not reimburse me for the ruined items. The management company is terrible and would not recommend renting from them. Our property managers were non responsive and wouldn't help alleviate any problems until I reached out to the CEO.

I mostly chose to live in Lakeview because I wanted to be walking distance from the Synagogues. But I really love the area. It's definitely city, but there's still some grass/trees. The main areas are exciting and alive, but the side streets are still pretty quiet. It really has character, and it's got both Wrigleyville for the sports bar scene and the whole Northalsted (previously known as boystown) scene as well. Much more bang for your buck than a streeterville apartment. Depending on where exactly you live you'd either take the train or the bus to streeterville, but either way your commute is probably 30-40 minutes, which isn't so bad. Unless you have a car, in which case your commute is more like 10-15 minutes
With COVID, I haven't been out much but I love Lakeview's access to the lake front and restaurants. Unlike Woodlawn, where I used to live, there are plenty of grocery stores within walking distance (10 minutes or less). In the fall and spring, I can also bike down the lake front path to school, which is a really pretty and relaxed way to commute.
Lake view is an excellent neighborhood to be a young professional. Easy access to downtown if you work there, yet has the neighborhood feel that separates work from home.
Quieter / more family oriented neighborhood but still with plenty of bars/restaurants in walking distance.
Great place to live and easy commute to Streeterville. Lots of green space, restaurants, and safe.
My wife and I couldn't imagine living in any neighborhood other than Lakeview.
The main reason we moved here was the neighborhood. Broadway, Clark, Diversey and Belmont are all within walking distance and offer all of the shops, restaurants, bars and grocery stores you could need. It really is in a prime, unbeatable location. Not to mention it's a block from Lake Michigan and walking distance to Lincoln Park and a short bike ride from Montrose Beach.
My street and neighborhood are usually fairly quiet. Sundays seem to be the going out day in the neighborhood but it isn't disruptive to my every day life. Overall it seems like a very safe area and being a young woman living alone, that is very important. Would definitely recommend to friends and family.
