Utilities are instant savings and a modern quiet property for working professionals

I have loved my experience at the Collins. First of all, while the building is definitely on the pricier side, you immediately save a bunch on utilities/electrical, which are incredibly efficient and literally one quarter the price I've paid at other 2BRs in Philly. The units themselves are very efficiently laid out, luxurious, and everything just works very well - if it doesn't, maintenance is quick to fix it. The location is very quiet though the walls within the unit can be a bit thin. Having a Target, Petco, CVS, and Starbucks directly downstairs is a huge perk. The building is incredibly pet friendly and the people living in the building are fun but also respectful (don't make too much noise). The building has a gym that is surprisingly useful for its small size (but no free weights) and the rooftop space is incredibly spacious and amazing for entertaining. There is both a 24-hour doorman and video intercom system in addition to package receiving, meaning that all your deliveries are covered. There have been some hiccups here and there (the occasional fire alarm) as a new building, but it has by far been the most satisfied I've been with an apartment yet. Finally, the doormen are all great and the building manager Tracy is very thoughtful and responsive. I highly recommend the Collins to anyone looking to live in Downtown Philly.

Well appointed and managed luxury in a fantastic location

I moved to The Collins a little over three months ago and am loving the experience. I live in a two-bedroom unit with a roommate, and find the layout to be generally very usable and roommate friendly. The kitchen and bathrooms are particularly impressive, and there is fantastic storage everywhere. The fittings and finishes have clearly been well thought out:
Soft-close everything, cool sliding barn doors (on second bedroom - real door on the other), nice faucets, well-placed outlets, high-end Bosch washer/dryer, and engineered wood for quiet floors. The sound insulation on the windows is spectacular, entirely drowning out the outside world. In the rare event that anything isn't in top form, management has fixed the issue the same day while I'm at work; I just submit a request through an easy-to-use online portal where I can also pay my rent and utilities. And on that note, utilities are insanely low for a two-bedroom apartment - under $60/month in peak summer, and my roommate and I aren't particularly conservative with usage. I also love the amenities that are at my disposal. The gym is very clean and well-maintained, and what I'd call "sufficient" for a quick workout, but I am particularly picky as I use heaver weights than most building gyms would accommodate. Luckily, 12th Street Gym is just a block away! I really love the roofdeck and club room, both of which are quite spacious, and are never over-crowded. The rooftop dog park is also a massive bonus for when I watch my parent's dog. My only complaints, which I recognize are very minor, would be having a Luxor package locker system versus just having a package room (I have never really worried about anybody stealing my packages in a luxury building, and accessing them is a bit of a hassle, and they get returned to sender in only three days unless you manually tell it not to), mailboxes are not marked with unit numbers, so I have to remember another number for it, and key fob access for the elevator is particularly annoying, as the front desk has to let guests up by leaving their desk and going to the elevators. This latter issue is particularly annoying if I want friends to join me on the roofdeck, as that is at another elevator bank, and someone who lives in the building then has to leave the roofdeck to go retrieve visitors, which gets old when you've having several friends visit (if, say, you rent out the roof for a private event). Other than that, having the key fob as my access tool for the building, my unit, and the amenities is really convenient. Finally, the location couldn't be better, as you're right in the middle of some of the best bars and restaurants, but tucked away enough that none of the hustle and bustle will bother you at home. Glad I moved here!

Great building for great rate

Collins is in a central location with great features (balcony and an amazing rooftop). While I have had many nice rooftops in other buildings, the rooftop at the Collins has been the first which I have utilized so frequently. We have hosted an Engagement party, friend's Bridal Shower, watched Basketball with friends, hanging out to play cards. It is super homey and so well decorated. It is the most active rooftop I have seen. So close to so many things useful (Mom's Organic -
groceries; Bars/Restaurants; Jefferson Train Station; Close to Old City and Rittenhouse on the other end). Cons are limited storage, but I think that is also based on the unit you pick (1 bdrm). Our kitchen has amazing storage for example, hallway closet is annoyingly small. Not a fan of the European sized dishwasher, but I am adjusting I guess. Management and maintenance is sort of slow and unclear. Hopefully just because they are new and improves. Small gym in a basement. But I prefer to go to the gyms in the city, lot of good options nearby. Back to the balconies, I love that everyone walking on the street is amazed at our large balconies :) It is hard to find in the city!

Great new building

The Collins is a new building with beautiful units--high ceilings, enormous windows, and nicely finished. Management is very responsive and my experience with them and the building has been great so far. You can't beat this location, just a block away from a great collection of restaurants and bars at 13th and Sansom.

Great new building in Midtown Village

The Collins really feels like an adult apartment - high ceilings, nice finishings (none of the appliances feel cheap), great rooftop amenities (that actually get used by residents), and is probably the most pet friendly building I've lived in (we literally live above Pet Smart).

What sets the Collins apartment from other large apartment complexes I've lived in is that it feels more like a "home". It's only 6 floors high, so you run into your neighbors more and it feels a more friendly in that regard. The doormen and maintenance staff are super friendly, though requests do take some following up on to get completed.

Having lived in a few different parts of Philly, I think it's really the best neighborhood in Philly if you are a young professional. We live right above Target, a block away from Mom's Organic, steps away from Lolita, Barbuzzo, Zavino, etc. and can easily walk to Rittenhouse Square or Washington Square.

I'm fairly early into my lease, but barring any significant life changes, I certainly expect to renew my lease!

Midtown Village Reviews

Access to restaurants, attractions, and shops in Center City and even nearby in South Philly or Rittenhouse Square is superb. There is generally a lot of street traffic and drug addiction and homelessness are common in the area, but typically not a source of harm for passersby and also not much different than in any other major urban center in the U.S.
Best neighborhood in Center City - can't beat the price for what you get. Amazing location, just a short walk to Rittenhouse or Old City. Can't beat living in the heart of Center City, and only a 7 minute walk to the hospital. Plenty of night life.
Some crime in the area, but overall, great bar and restaurant scene with easy access to public transit.
Center city is arguably safe but sometimes there are some issues. Police are responsive.
Midtown Village is quickly becoming one of the best places in Philly to live. The quick downside is there's a lot of construction in the area, but that's also the positive if you're okay with the feel of a city that's constantly changing. The area already has lots of great bars and restaurants, and all the new construction is adding in great new options for grocery, coffee, and convenience items. There's now a Target, Mom's Grocery, multiple Wawas, Sweetgreen, etc. all in close proximity to mainstays like Reading Terminal.
Midtown Village is a fast-growing and both has great mainstay restaurants like El Vez and Barbuzzo as well as amazing chains like Chipotle and Sweet Green. The addition of a Target, Wawa, CVS, Starbucks, and Petco makes it even more accessible and naturally the location is as central as you can be in Philadelphia. In comparing options, you usually can get a bit of a discount versus Rittenhouse Square and Old City, mainly because the Midtown Village brand is still being built up, but you really can't beat the location and access to amenities. The only thing it's missing is a full-service grocery store, but between Reading Terminal Market, Target, Walgreens, and CVS you're pretty set. The main downside can be the noise and litter that comes with being in the heart of downtown, but it's a trade off I'm more than willing to make and has been getting better with time.
I love this neighborhood! It's very lively and great for young adults. There are a lot of cool restaurants/bars around. It's a little pricey but what can you expect from being in the center of a city like Philadelphia?
The area is filled with lots of young people. I don't feel unsafe walking around even at night because there are people out all the time. There are a couple of narrow streets I probably wouldn't walk through though.
The neighborhood is amazing and getting better every day! It combines access to great daily conveniences (coffee shops, Target, Wawa, etc.) with some of the best independent restaurants and bars in Philly. The location is incredibly central overall and transit options can get you pretty much anywhere in the city. It can get a bit noisy, though that's the price you pay for being downtown.
