Riverside Park Place

Riverside Park Place is a large condominium building where all the units are individually owned. The building has a pool, overlooks Riverside Park (field, playground, river, walking path), and has a VERY tiny gym (ie. treadmill, bike, set of free weights). There is a mixture of medical students, graduate students, families, and retirees lol, so the building is a quiet building. The building is about a 10-15 minute walk to the hospital. I have really enjoyed living here! There is going to be significant variability between the different units and landlords as each condo is individually owned. The only downside so far has been the parking situation. Parking is included in the rent, and each unit has one dedicated covered spot. There are an additional 20 or so spots for everybody else. This means sometimes you have to park on the street, but I have never struggled to find street parking or gotten a ticket.

Good location

Best location to walk to school. Apartments are rented out by owners not a management company. Quiet building with a pool.

Great Apartment

If you are working within the hospital system, this apartment is perfect — it takes less than ten minutes to walk to the hospital/medical school. The inside of the apartments are very nice! Two bedrooms and two full baths for $1800 in Ann Arbor is about average but the space is large and the view over surrounding parks/the river is awesome!
Downside: If you have two cars, parking the second car is extremely difficult due to a small parking lot. No gym facilities. Your apartment is assigned one day each week to do laundry (with a free for all in Sundays). Pipes are old and renovations are on the horizon — you may have problems with hot water depending on which apartment you’re in.
Overall, great location, good community, a little expensive for what you get but would recommend overall!

Awesome Spot

Great place to live, very safe, close to campus, tons of space/storage in each apartment, on-site property manager, safe mail delivery, pool and party room on-site

Cons: limited parking, walls are thin, building is mostly older occupants (not students)

North Campus is the place to be!! Lots of trails and nature for walking, NCRB gym nearby, grocery stores, gas, food, and more. Mostly graduate students up here so quieter but also within 10 min drive to downtown. There's always parking too.
I have lived in A2 for going on 14 years, it is sort of like having a friend, even when you are alone.

Me and a friend and her dog visit neighborhood parks.

That dog met the caged bald eagle at Leslie Science Center.. and twang!
To the end of his leash! The eagle looked at him like he was the most delicious thing he's seen all Winter. We just trudged thru the snow to view the cages, (both eagle and dog are ok)
Great quieter area very close to the hospital, and close to many other med students. It’s a more peaceful area that’s a tad farther from downtown, but for someone who likes a quieter space to study or nice spaces to walk and hang out with friends, white coat area is right by the river and Island Drive Park, and there are often med student social events held at White Coat Area because so many medical students choose to live here.
I personally really like North Campus, although it is farther away from downtown and the law school. There are several restaurants right near my apartment complex and the commute to school is very easy. I also find the lack of nightlife a plus, because it means the neighborhood is a lot quieter and safer than other areas of Ann Arbor.
Overall this area is great for walking to the medical school and hospital, living near other medical students, and especially having easier parking than in the central downtown/kerrytown areas. You also escape the rowdiness of undergrads by living here. The main reason I gave it a "7/very good" rating was because I don't like feeling isolated in location from central campus. Walking from White Coat to restaurants/bars downtown is at least 20-25 minutes, and often I decide not to go just because I don't want to walk there and back. After 6PM everyday parking is free downtown (free all day on Sunday), which is nice, except you don't always want to drive if you are going out to bars. It would be nice to have some type of casual coffee shop or restaurant in walkable distance to White Coat, but there is not. (edit: there is one breakfast-like cafe near White Coat, but it gets busy and is over-priced). There are some restaurants and coffee shops down the street on Plymouth road (not downtown) which is an easy 5 minute drive.
Multiple apartment/condo complexes within 10 minute walk of one another creating central location for many medical students of the University of Michigan. Park is 5 minute walk away. Lecture halls are 15 minutes door to hall. Hospital is 15-20 minutes from door to specific area of hospital. Never any safety issues. Parking can be strict and limited. Few stores and restaurants nearby.
This neighborhood is a 10 minute walk to the hospital which makes is very popular for medical students, residents, and even attendings. It is quiet, but it can be very busy in the morning and around 4pm when everyone is arriving/leaving their shifts. Grocery stores, cafes, and restaurants are a 5 min drive away near north campus.
Pros: beautiful - near the Huron River (5 min walk!) and trails and lots of trees. Very quiet. Residential area - maybe only 20% students vs. long-term residents where I am, though I'm close to the hospitals and med students, architects, and engineers all live up here. Very safe, and I see deer or even a raccoon once in a while. Grocery store is 1 mile away (Kroeger).

Cons: less social than I like in terms of proximity to Rossers. There is only one on my street that I know of.
