The apartment is quiet, neighbors are nice and rarely seen. Management is good - they don't really bother you about anything if you pay rent on time and are quick to respond if you need anything (like fixing something in the apt or accidentally locking yourself out).
The apartment is fairly spacious, including a dining room.

Denniston Street Building

Franklin West owns a ton of properties and this may be the lowest price apartment of theirs according to their website, and I do pay extra to park my car in their parking lot. There is seemingly no places to park nearby when I have visitors come over. I can very easily hear the people above me walking around and talking or watching TV, but otherwise no one bothers me. My building is mostly young professionals or other graduate students. The property managers told me AC would be included in my rent but there just is not any AC in my apartment and I had to buy a window unit and install it myself. It is somewhat hard to regulate the temperature and also hard to keep mold from growing in the bathroom due to poor ventilation. I once asked maintenance to hang my TV on the wall and they did not hang the TV but did put a huge hole in the wall and I had to finish the job. Because I have a basement apartment the ceilings are super low but I do get a patio to myself. I would highly recommend touring first, in person and not virtually, because there were a lot of things not well-advertised by their digital tour -- and they did not offer me a chance to tour in person at the time I signed my lease. They charge extra every month for pets unless you get an ESA. The building has a shared laundry unit (as in a single washer and dryer to share w/ the whole building) down the hall as well as storage units set aside for each apartment. There was once a maintenance man in the hall drilling into the wall, spraying dirt and water everywhere, at 11pm on a Tuesday night and I had no idea if he was supposed to be there or when he would be done (he left after an hour and there was a mess all over the floor.) The neighborhood is very safe and quiet. I am within walking distance of Target, restaurants/bars, bus stops, and other little shops. I love living in Shadyside but not necessarily renting w/ Franklin West. If I had more money I would likely be looking elsewhere, but it is good enough for now.

As someone who does not own a car, accessibility was extremely important to me. I'm within a 7 minute walk of three bus lines that will get me to school in 20 minutes less, and just as close to bus lines that take me to CHP and St. Margaret's. I'm walking distance to several grocery stores and restaurants and just down the street from Walnut Street, which has coffee shops and some shopping.
Building borders on North Oakland and Shadyside. Nice neighborhoods just behind the building that have made for good running streets. Next to bus stops. Grocery store is not very walkable, but on a bus line and a short drive away by car.
I love Shadyside! The buses run quite often making it accessible to get anywhere I need to go, and there are plenty of restaurants, coffee shops, and grocery stores close.
Very nice neighborhood, close to restaurants, bars, shopping, groceries, and bus stops that take you anywhere in the city. Slightly pricey
Very safe and quiet! Access to all the major bus lines: 75, 71A, 71B, 71C, 71D which all come fairly frequently!
very safe and fun neighborhood to live in! Also very convenient and easy access to campus when needed.
Within walking distance to bars, restaurants, grocery stores, many public buses, and nice parks!
Excellent neighborhood. A lot of residential areas but also several restaurants and bars
