I don't want to move out of here

Walnut Capital is the best property management and we have maintenance living on-site and on-call through the night. This apartment complex has a gym and free coffee in the lobby, in addition to party room / pool table / vending machine and outdoor communal areas with grills. Mail and package room is always nicely organized by unit numbers. There are usually cute social events for residents once a month (pizza, or food truck, or dessert stuff like that). Sound doesn't travel horizontally but travels vertically, like you can hear people stomping in the unit above. Parking can get a little expensive if added on top of rent. Utilities are not included. There is a railroad in the slopes where cargo trains run and that can get loud sometimes.

Great apartment for Fourth Year

Access to one bus that stops in front of building and goes to Oakland can make it difficult to get to work/school without a car or paying for an Uber. Otherwise great facility with great views and spacious rooms. Lots of social programs to get engaged with the community. Administration are great.

About South Side

Across the Monongahela River is Pittsburgh's beautiful South Side, which boasts tons of hip bars and dining options. East Carson is said to be Pittsburgh's version of Bourbon Street if that gives you any indication of the vibe in this neighborhood. However, the area is divided into two parts - South...

South Side Reviews

Parking can be impossible on weekend evenings but it is worth it for the ease of access to Southside bars and restaurants. There can be a bit of noise every now and again, but it is really not a nuisance overall. Parking will likely be your biggest complaint, but you'd find that in pretty much every neighborhood in Pittsburgh.
Close by to gym, grocery store, transit, and bars/restaurants.
I don't think its a very safe area, and the efforts to make it more safe seem to not be working. But, it is affordable and close to the school which is why I plan on staying there. If rent wasn't insanely high I would move to somewhere more safe/secure but its just not in my budget right now.
It’s E Carson street, so it’s expected to have traffic sounds and hooting and cheering on the weekends. Thankfully our bedroom faces away from E Carson and into a parking lot of our apartment building - it’s surprisingly quiet. The walls are also super think here- I’ve never heard my neighbors. While south side can get roudy, you have walking distance to coffee shops, groceries, thrift stores, and bars, if that’s your jam. It’s pretty nice!
I personally love Southside. It's close to Duquesne without the prices of downtown. There are grocery stores and restaurants very close by and its easy to get to campus by walking or on the shuttle. The Southside trail is also great for working out. Southside can get a bad rap but I've never felt unsafe and I love the community.
Hard to get to Oakland via public transport. I live near south side works which is very safe, however a couple of streets up East Carson there is some crime so be aware.
