Almost Great

Overall, a great experience. I will get my negatives out of the way first. My bedroom does not have windows but if you have a sunrise lamp or a smart bulb that turns on around the time you want to wake up, it's a non-issue. Other than that the walls are a little thin but I have never lived in this style apartment so I don't know whats typical.

A neutral thing is the proximity to the train track but since its a brick building, its no louder than distant traffic. Management also seems good, very responsive but I haven't had the need to contact them.

Let's get to the good stuff. Extremely spacious, almost too much space. My bedroom has enough extra space for a whole other living room or enough to fit an office/workout space. On top of that my bedroom has a huge walk in closet that has a washer and dryer in it. Kitchen is nice, electric stove, oven, and microwave. Plenty of counter space and cabinet space. Decent sized single basin sink. The rest of the apartment space is also spacious. In the living room/kitchen area I fit a dining room table, a bar cabinet, a baker's rack, a sectional couch, two ladder shelves, a lamp, a coffee table, a side table, a chest, and still had space. There are two large windows in the living room with an alright view but let in great lighting. Bathroom is solid, 2 drawers and under sink cabinet space. Bath with shower head. Upon entering the apartment the is a long hallway that leads to the living room space, along the wall of the hallway are the doors to the bedroom and bathroom. The hallway is spacious. I have a book shelf and a shoe/coat rack.
Overall aesthetic is great. Rustic, dark wood, dark granite, wood floors.

About South Side

Across the Monongahela River is Pittsburgh's beautiful South Side, which boasts tons of hip bars and dining options. East Carson is said to be Pittsburgh's version of Bourbon Street if that gives you any indication of the vibe in this neighborhood. However, the area is divided into two parts - South...

Parking can be impossible on weekend evenings but it is worth it for the ease of access to Southside bars and restaurants. There can be a bit of noise every now and again, but it is really not a nuisance overall. Parking will likely be your biggest complaint, but you'd find that in pretty much every neighborhood in Pittsburgh.
Close by to gym, grocery store, transit, and bars/restaurants.
I don't think its a very safe area, and the efforts to make it more safe seem to not be working. But, it is affordable and close to the school which is why I plan on staying there. If rent wasn't insanely high I would move to somewhere more safe/secure but its just not in my budget right now.
It’s E Carson street, so it’s expected to have traffic sounds and hooting and cheering on the weekends. Thankfully our bedroom faces away from E Carson and into a parking lot of our apartment building - it’s surprisingly quiet. The walls are also super think here- I’ve never heard my neighbors. While south side can get roudy, you have walking distance to coffee shops, groceries, thrift stores, and bars, if that’s your jam. It’s pretty nice!
I personally love Southside. It's close to Duquesne without the prices of downtown. There are grocery stores and restaurants very close by and its easy to get to campus by walking or on the shuttle. The Southside trail is also great for working out. Southside can get a bad rap but I've never felt unsafe and I love the community.
Hard to get to Oakland via public transport. I live near south side works which is very safe, however a couple of streets up East Carson there is some crime so be aware.
