The Roosevelt

The whole building is studios and one bedrooms. This is a basic apartment complex - no amenities except laundry (coin operated) and a bike room in an older building. However, the location is amazing - 20 minute walk from campus and in the middle of center city with a bus stop (42 and 21) right across the street. Plus, it was $300 cheaper than anything else that I looked at in the same area. The manager of the building is definitely a little crazy, but she is very responsive and takes good care of the building.

The Roosevelt Apartment building is the best value near Center City.

The Roosevelt Apartment building is the best value you will get in the area. The building is clean and location is great at 22nd and Walnut. Most people are young professionals looking to save money on rent. There is no gym. The management is helpful and responsive to issues.

Great apartment near 2401 and school.

It's an older building that has been very well maintained.

Great location, very low rent, ideal for someone living alone and on a budget

The Roosevelt is in a prime location just a 5 minute walk to Rittenhouse Park but also as close as possible to campus while still being in Center City. R-Bar (formerly known as Rosie's) is right downstairs and there is a nail salon and dry cleaners just down the street as well. Also just 2 blocks and 2 avenues from Trader Joe's on 21st and Market. There is no doorman, just a key fab to enter but I've never had a problem with security thus far. Definitely a great deal for the amount I am paying - I would recommend the building to others.

Fitler Square is really cute and homey. It's around a lot of other medical students, so it's a good social area and has an easy commute to school. It's also great if you like running because it's right off the trail on the river. Food is good but a bit homogenous (compared to West Philly especially.
Locust and spruce feel a lot safer than market or chestnut at night. Very residential streets with beautiful brownstones. Also close to dog park and the river walkway. About 10min walk from the popular buildings and 25min walk to huntsman
good place for people new to the city! close to both Penn and a lot of stuff downtown. I never lived in Philly beforehand, and definitely recommend this location
Love the neighborhood! If you're interested in being close to the center of the city and being able to actively explore Philly (for a not extreme price) it was great! Also was easy to get to my school - University of Pennsylvania. 15-20 mins to get to school by transit; 30 mins walking.

That being said I did notice that most students lived on the side of the school!
The beautiful tree-filled neighborhood is full of families, dogs, and students - it is safe, full of great restaurants, and boasts an equally quick walk to both University City and downtown attractions. The immediate access to the Schuylkill River Trail also can't be beat. While we lack apartment amenities, we love living in a historical brownstone that has charm and character. This is an area where you can live as a student and stay for another 20 years after that.
Great neighborhood, though expensive for Philly. If you're a Penn grad student who wants to be near campus but not on campus, it's ideal for distance from school and the Rittenhouse area. Lots of parks and residents are friendly.
There are residents without housing in the neighborhood. They're good people and new residents should be respectful of them and their belongings.
The neighborhood is very residential. Not a ton of bars/restaurants which can be annoying if you just want to pick up food after a busy day, but it's right near the park and Skukyhill river trail which is great for exercising and getting outdoors. Close to Trader Joe's and South Street market which is convenient
Center City is a fantastic area. I live on the northern side of it, which is the more financial/industrial/apartment building side. I live 2 blocks from a busy Trader Joe's and inches away from tons of great restaurants, corner stores, and shops. It's close to Rittenhouse Square, a swanky square block with a tiny park in the middle, as well as the Schuylkill River trail (great for running and biking) and the Art Museum area. Multiple major bus lines slice through this neighborhood, making it quite easy to get anywhere when you don't want to walk or bike.
