Great spot between campus and Rittenhouse

Locust Point is perfect as a home base between campus and Rittenhouse. Floor plans are spacious and the ceilings are crazy high. Views are awesome if you face the river as well. The neighborhood is also very cute with a nearby dog park, a much calmer and safer experience than many apartments by Rittenhouse. Only downsides are very few Wharton students in the building (since it's a condo building) and proximity to the train tracks can be noisy if your unit faces the river. Still, I'd highly recommend renting from a condo owner (if you can find one who is renting) if you're willing to walk ~10 minutes to most social events in Rittenhouse.

Location and Amenities

The apartment itself is only about 800 square feet; however, it has 16 foot ceilings with 12 foot windows that faced the skuchyill river that made the space feel open and light. For busy residents who are at HUP/CHOP, this location is ideal as it is about a 20 minute walk (8-10 minute bike ride) to HUP (likely closer to 30 minute walk to VA/Presby), plus it is right on the schukyill river trail if you enjoy running (it also has a 24 hour gym - small, no smith press/squat, but not busy).
- Parking: Yes, covered. Can be rented depending on availability
- Utilities: Modern heating and cooling that was reasonable ($50-75 per month)
- Groceries: TJs is 10 minute walking distance
- Washer and Dryer: Yes, in unit
- Storage unit: Yes, on same floor
- Resturant: Easy walk to Rittenhouse/graduate hospital area

Great Condo Building

It can be hard to find a unit here because it's all rent by owner, but it's a great place to live. Locust Point is close to campus, clean, and has spacious apartments, laundry in unit, and a gym in the building.

Fitler Square Reviews

Fitler Square is really cute and homey. It's around a lot of other medical students, so it's a good social area and has an easy commute to school. It's also great if you like running because it's right off the trail on the river. Food is good but a bit homogenous (compared to West Philly especially.
Locust and spruce feel a lot safer than market or chestnut at night. Very residential streets with beautiful brownstones. Also close to dog park and the river walkway. About 10min walk from the popular buildings and 25min walk to huntsman
good place for people new to the city! close to both Penn and a lot of stuff downtown. I never lived in Philly beforehand, and definitely recommend this location
Love the neighborhood! If you're interested in being close to the center of the city and being able to actively explore Philly (for a not extreme price) it was great! Also was easy to get to my school - University of Pennsylvania. 15-20 mins to get to school by transit; 30 mins walking.

That being said I did notice that most students lived on the side of the school!
The beautiful tree-filled neighborhood is full of families, dogs, and students - it is safe, full of great restaurants, and boasts an equally quick walk to both University City and downtown attractions. The immediate access to the Schuylkill River Trail also can't be beat. While we lack apartment amenities, we love living in a historical brownstone that has charm and character. This is an area where you can live as a student and stay for another 20 years after that.
Great neighborhood, though expensive for Philly. If you're a Penn grad student who wants to be near campus but not on campus, it's ideal for distance from school and the Rittenhouse area. Lots of parks and residents are friendly.
There are residents without housing in the neighborhood. They're good people and new residents should be respectful of them and their belongings.
The neighborhood is very residential. Not a ton of bars/restaurants which can be annoying if you just want to pick up food after a busy day, but it's right near the park and Skukyhill river trail which is great for exercising and getting outdoors. Close to Trader Joe's and South Street market which is convenient
Center City is a fantastic area. I live on the northern side of it, which is the more financial/industrial/apartment building side. I live 2 blocks from a busy Trader Joe's and inches away from tons of great restaurants, corner stores, and shops. It's close to Rittenhouse Square, a swanky square block with a tiny park in the middle, as well as the Schuylkill River trail (great for running and biking) and the Art Museum area. Multiple major bus lines slice through this neighborhood, making it quite easy to get anywhere when you don't want to walk or bike.
