Basic, spacious apartment with nice amenities but some security and social issues

The apartment is very basic--one bedroom, one bathroom, a kitchen with standard appliances, a living room, and a back porch. It's relatively large and has spacious closets and a full-sized kitchen. The original fireplace is a nice decorative touch, and the back porch is really nice during the summer. We've had very few problems with bugs or vermin, which is impressive given the fact that we're on the first floor in Allston. The landlord is very responsive when it comes to maintenance issues and always shovels when it snows. It's also cat friendly and the lack of security deposit means that we were able to paint. The lack of security deposit also means it was in poor shape when we moved in, though, so it was definitely a fixer-upper. The neighborhood is generally safe, but we did have a break-in our first year here that led to the loss of two computers. The walls are also extraordinarily thin and we've had some issues with a noisy upstairs-neighbor. We could also use some more sunlight--none of our windows are at the right angle. Overall, it's a basic, spacious apartment with some nice amenities, but it has a few security and social issues.
